In December, a new Mobile Suit Gundam series was announced, and people in the US will watch in cinemas! It is the first Gundam produced by Sunrise in partnership with the studio Khara, producer of Rebuild of Evangelion (and the studio currently holding the rights for the Evangelion series).
The series is titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (“GQuuuuuuX” should be pronounced something like “G-Quacks”), and it will be written Hideaki Anno and Yoji Enokido. The director is Kazuya Tsurumaki. Anno is the creator of Evangelion, and Enokido and Tsurumaki have worked on at least some installments of the series.

What can fans expect from Hideaki Anno’s Gundam series?
GKIDS announced it has acquired the rights to the prologue movie, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, and it will be in North American (US and likely Canada) theaters on February 28, 2025.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX
The movie is a prologue to the TV series, whose debut day is yet to be announced. The production team is likely to unveil more information soon, as the film is already screening in Japan.
This new story is set in a colony in outer space. Amate Yuzuriha is a regular girl attending school, until she meets Nyaan, a war refugee, and they learn about Clan Battles, illegal fights using mobile suits. That’s where the GQuuuuuuX comes in, as it will be piloted by Amate in those battles. The thing is, space forces and police are now after her.
Other staff members credited in the production are Take (Pokémon Sun & Moon) as character designer, and Ikuto Yamashita (Shin Kamen Rider, Evangelion) as mechanical designer.
Anno’s Involvement in the Series
While Anno is writing the scripts, Tsurumaki is apparently hiding the final results from him. According to Ikuto Yamashita, the project is supervised only by Tsurumaki:
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is supervised by Kazuya Tsurumaki. He decides everything as the director. Anno might be giving him some support on the sideline, but that’s all. As the president of Khara, Anno will be informed about the development of the project. However, [Tsurumaki] hides everything until the very last minute, to avoid being overturned or having to redo everything.
GQuuuuuuX is likely to be a show that anyone who hasn’t watched other Gundam series can enjoy.
While the GQuuuuuuX prologue movie is coming to North America next month, the TV series debut date remains to be announced.
