Genshin Impact Leak Details New Mini-Game for Lantern Rite

A new leak from Genshin Impact is hinting at a special mini-game set to arrive to the game as part of the annual Lantern Rite festivities. The massively popular RPG from HoYoverse has featured a wide variety of different mini-games throughout its many in-game events, often taking inspiration from other games. HoYoverse has brought everything from rhythm and tower defense mini-games to “Prop Hunt”-style challenges like the Windtrace game mode. Now, the next iteration of one of the game’s annual celebrations is set to introduce a new style of mini-game.

Lantern Rite serves as one of the biggest recurring events in Genshin Impact, whisking players back to the Liyue region for the festivities. The events have often included highly-anticipated new additions to the game’s roster, including the release of Xianyun with this year’s event and Yaoyao in 2023. Lantern Rite also features a wealth of in-game content for players to explore, featuring plenty of mini-games and a robust story for the annual festival. 2025’s version of the beloved Liyue festivities is now expected to be bringing a brand-new mini-game along with its launch.

Genshin Impact Leak Teases Lantern Rite Mini-Game

A new leak shared by prominent Genshin Impact leaker Hexenzirkel Leaks is giving fans all the details about the new Lantern Rite mini-game. According to the leaks, the mini-game will play similarly to the Puyo Puyo puzzle games, with players able to either square off against AI opponents or against other users online. The Genshin Impact mini-game will feature multiple playable characters, utilizing their stats and boasting unique skills to turn the tides of a match. The post does not clarify when the Lantern Rite update will release, though it is expected for early 2025.

Though HoYoverse has yet to officially reveal any characters coming in Version 5.3, one leaked roster member could suggest that Lantern Rite is soon at hand. Alongside the rumored release of Mavuika and Citlali, leaks have suggested that Version 5.3 will welcome Lan Yan as a new four-star character. Lan Yan is teased to be joining the roster as an Anemo shield-focused support unit within Genshin Impact, featuring high mobility and the ability to pull in enemies. Lan Yan has yet to be officially teased within Genshin Impact.

With fans anxiously awaiting HoYoverse’s first reveals for Version 5.3, Genshin Impact fans were recently treated to the launch of Version 5.2. Version 5.2’s launch last week saw the introduction of two brand-new characters to the game, with Chasca debuting as a five-star character and Ororon as a four-star unit. The update also added a new expansion to the in-game map for Natlan, bringing the Flower-Feather Clan and the Masters of the Night-Wind to the playable map. While Natlan has been the main focus throughout recent updates, Liyue fans should have plenty of reasons to be excited for this year’s Lantern Rite.
