Summary

  • Forza Horizon 5 is coming to PS5 this spring with cross-play support.
  • The PS5 version will have the same content as the PC and Xbox versions.
  • Playground Games is also working on a free update for all platforms called Horizon Realms.

It’s official: Xbox console exclusive game Forza Horizon 5 is coming to the PS5 this spring. Forza Horizon 5 is one of the highest-rated Xbox console exclusives to date. The open world racer from Playground Games earned a great deal of critical acclaim back in 2021, with many considering it to be one of the best racing games ever made.

Forza has been a key Xbox exclusive since the days of the original Xbox console, alongside other flagship franchises like Halo and Gears of War. At one point in time, it would have been unheard of for any Forza game to be released on a PlayStation console, but now that’s exactly what’s happening.

Playground Games has confirmed that Forza Horizon 5 is releasing on PS5 in spring 2025, but a specific release date and pricing information are not available at the time of this writing. Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 will have identical content to the PC and Xbox versions of the game, which means nearly 900 cars, an open world Mexico to explore, and two expansions for those that want even more than what the base game has to offer. It’s possible Forza Horizon 5 will utilize the unique capabilities of the PS5’s DualSense controller in a similar manner as other racing games on the platform, but if so, that has yet to be confirmed.

Forza Horizon 5 is Coming to PS5 This Spring

When Forza Horizon 5 comes to PS5, it will include cross-play support. This way, those that have access to Forza Horizon 5 through Xbox Game Pass will be able to play with their friends on PS5 just like they can already play with their friends on PC. Cross-play will presumably be available for every online multiplayer game mode, and should ensure that the game gets a big player count boost once the PS5 version launches.

In the meantime, Playground games has also confirmed that it’s working on a new free content update called Horizon Realms. According to Playground Games, Realm will feature a curated collection of the most popular Evolving Worlds content “alongside some other surprises.” more information on the Horizon Realms update will be available at a later date.

The confirmation that Forza Horizon 5 is coming to PS5 lends a great deal of credibility to the leaks about other Xbox games supposedly jumping ship to PS5. For the uninitiated, it’s also been heavily rumored that Gears of War and even Halo is coming to PS5 in 2025. With Forza Horizon 5 making the jump, one has to think it’s just a matter of time before Halo and Gears of War follow suit.
