  • The Rage of the Firelands content update launching on October 29 introduces the Firelands raid and a new Legendary staff.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic just announced that Hour of Twilight, the final major patch of the expansion, is having its release pushed back beyond the original January 2025 window. This means World of Warcraft players will have a little more time to enjoy the Rage of the Firelands content update coming to Cataclysm Classic on October 29.

Recently, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic locked down October 29 as the release date for Rage of the Firelands. This content update introduces the Firelands raid, which opens on November 7, along with the questline to earn Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest, a Legendary staff that comes with a unique flying mount. The Classic version of Cataclysm also introduces some new features to the mix, including a high-definition textures option and Protocol Inferno Heroic Difficulty dungeons.

World of Warcraft Reveals Twitch Drop for 20th Anniversary Update

World of Warcraft reveals a nostalgic Twitch Drop campaign to celebrate the 20th anniversary event update coming to the game on October 22.

However, World of Warcraft also revealed another important detail about Cataclysm Classic’s future that fans should be aware of. In a post on Twitter, the official WoW Classic Devs account spoke about the increased acquisition rate of Dragonwrath. During the same announcement, it confirmed Rage of the Firelands would extend beyond the previously-announced end date in January 2025. This means Hour of Twilight, the final content update of Cataclysm, will arrive in Classic no sooner than February 2025.

WoW: Cataclysm Classic Hour of Twilight Delayed

The original January 2025 release window for Hour of Twilight was revealed on the WoW: Cataclysm Classic roadmap during BlizzCon 2023. With Cataclysm Classic itself having begun on May 20, Hour of Twilight was originally slated to release a mere seven months after the expansion itself, significantly faster than Burning Crusade Classic, which had 11 months between its launch and the final raid, and even more so than Wrath of the Lich King Classic’s 16-month gap.

At present, there is no confirmation of how long this delay will last. That said, it is unlikely to be more than a month or two, so players can likely expect Hour of Twilight to arrive next February or March. Dragonwrath itself takes between four and 12 weeks to create depending on raid difficulty, so the extension should give guilds the chance to finish a couple more Legendaries in WoW: Cataclysm Classic before the final patch arrives.

There’s no telling what exactly is in store for Classic fans after Hour of Twilight yet, but some recently-discovered mounts might hold a clue. Sha-corrupted tiger and cloud serpent mounts were recently discovered on the WoW: Cataclysm Classic Public Test Realm, which could hint that an announcement for Mists of Pandaria Classic is imminent. Players should keep an eye on the upcoming Warcraft Direct planned for later this year, as it would be a logical place for WoW to make such an announcement if it is happening.
