Summary

  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth achieved three times as many concurrent Steam players as FF7 Remake during its first weekend.
  • The PC version of the RPG is currently one of the best-selling games on Steam.
  • The 30% early adopter discount—available until February 5—likely helped Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth build solid early momentum on PC.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has peaked at over 40,000 concurrent Steam players. This data point and some of the game’s early sales estimates both suggest that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is off to a strong start on PC.

The second game in the FF7 remake trilogy originally debuted as a PlayStation 5 exclusive in February 2024. Ten months later, Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PC port during the latest edition of The Game Awards. The PC version of the critically acclaimed RPG reached Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23.

Over on Valve’s storefront, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth seems to be off to a strong start, with SteamDB’s data suggesting that the game peaked at 40,564 players in the afternoon hours (EST) on Sunday, January 26. The RPG thus attracted roughly three times as many concurrent players compared to the PC version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, which peaked at 13,803 simultaneous users shortly following its December 2021 release.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Is Currently One of the Best-Selling Games on Steam

In terms of commercial performance, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth appears to have built solid early momentum, with Valve listing it as the 15th best-selling game on its storefront as of January 26. According to estimates from VG Insights, Gamalytic, and PlayTracker, the game sold between 123,000 and 306,000 copies on Steam within its first three days on the market. Averaging these figures places the RPG’s current sales on the platform at approximately 223,700.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Early Steam Sales Estimates

For comparison, the same sources estimate that Final Fantasy 7 Remake has sold around a million copies on Valve’s storefront since late 2021. Unlike the first entry in the remake trilogy, the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PC port was offered at a 30% discount during its pre-order period, which likely helped it build commercial momentum. This early adopter deal—which applies to both the base game and its Digital Deluxe Edition—is still available, and will remain live until February 5.

Square Enix has recently confirmed that the development of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is progressing well, although the company still isn’t ready to commit to a specific release window for the game. Based on the developer’s turnaround times for the first two entries in the trilogy, the FF7 Rebirth sequel could possibly hit the market as early as 2027. It’s presently unclear whether the game will end up being a timed PlayStation exclusive. While Square Enix has recently begun moving away from platform exclusivity deals, it’s possible that Sony had already secured timed exclusivity for the third Final Fantasy 7 remake prior to that strategic shift.
