To kick off 2025, Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki Yoshida released a New Year’s message to players, and said that the development of the game’s next two major content updates is underway. Yoshida also teased Final Fantasy 14 players with a cryptic clue about where the main story of Dawntrail is headed.
Yoshida started his annual message by saying 2025 will mark 15 years since he took charge as director and producer of Final Fantasy 14. Following the disastrous launch of Final Fantasy 14 version 1.0, which was marred by technical issues and criticized for its gameplay and systems. Yoshida was tasked with turning things around, which resulted in shutting down the game with a climactic finale that saw Bahamut emerge and lay waste to the land. Final Fantasy 14 was relaunched in August 2013 as A Realm Reborn, which players can soon re-experience in the upcoming Final Fantasy 14 Mobile. FF14 Mobile is in closed beta at the time of writing.

While 2024 saw the release of the Dawntrail expansion along with some significant changes to Final Fantasy 14, Yoshida said players can expect more content in 2025. According to the Lodestone, Yoshida said that 2025 will be when Final Fantasy 14‘s next two major content updates, Patches 7.2 and 7.3, will go live. Final Fantasy 14 launched Patch 7.1 on November 12, which introduced the first part of the Echoes of Vana’diel alliance raid series. Given that Final Fantasy 14 tends to release major updates every 19 to 20 weeks, Patch 7.2 is estimated to launch in late March to early April 2025. Yoshida said that his first producer checks on Patch 7.2’s implementation will begin in February.
