The Final Fantasy 7 Remake project is set to conclude with its upcoming third title. After Final Fantasy 7 Remake burst onto the scene in 2020 following years of anticipation, the planned trilogy continued last year with the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Soon, Square Enix’s ambitious plans to remake the 1997 PlayStation classic Final Fantasy 7 will conclude with the inevitable release of the third entry.

While it may be a few years until fans see the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy in action, speculation has mounted regarding what platforms this new title will be available on. As this title is sure to be one of Square Enix’s most anticipated upcoming games, gamers will need to know what systems they can play it on. It appears fans will be seeing a major switch-up in this new game’s release compared to the previous entries in the trilogy.

Why the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy Should Be a One-and-Done Project

Regardless of how good the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has been, Square Enix arguably shouldn’t continue with these projects after it’s all over.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 May Expand To New Platforms

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3’s Xbox Release Looks Likely

While Part 3 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be released on the PlayStation 5, there’s a strong likelihood that this new game will also be released on the Xbox Series X|S. This would represent a stark contrast to the previous titles in the franchise, which are only available on PlayStation’s family of consoles. The original game, upon its announcement in 2015, was confirmed to be a timed PlayStation exclusive, and while both titles have come to PC, none of them are available on Xbox consoles.

However, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 has a much stronger shot of appearing on Xbox, given how Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Square Enix will release titles on various platforms. Square itself has also confirmed its plans to aggressively pursue multiplatform releases to ensure that more gamers get the chance to play their games. All of this could be a tacit admission that the final chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy could be released on Xbox.

Square Enix Should Bring The Full Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy To Xbox

As previously mentioned, releasing the conclusion of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy on Xbox would be a bit strange, as neither of the previous titles are currently available for Microsoft’s family of consoles. Since announcing that Remake would be a timed PlayStation exclusive, Square has not released either of the first two entries on the Xbox. Thus, it would certainly be odd to expect Xbox players to jump into the third part of the trilogy when they don’t have proper access to the first two parts.

Square Enix could mitigate this a touch by releasing an all-in-one bundle of all three games on the Xbox when they are ready to go. There is a precedent for the publisher to do this, as a Final Fantasy 7 Remake & Rebirth Twin Pack is available on both PC and PlayStation. Surely, Square will prepare some kind of triple pack for those platforms when the third chapter is ready to go, and this could be a brilliant opportunity for the publisher to bring these games to Xbox.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Could Also Make the Jump to The Nintendo Switch 2

Even beyond Xbox, there’s a realistic chance that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will also be launching on the Nintendo Switch 2. Early reports have indicated that both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be coming to the Switch 2. If the system is capable of running these games – and given that the next chapter in the trilogy is confirmed to be released on the PlayStation 5 – it’s fair to assume the third part will also see a release on Nintendo’s next platform.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will be a hotly anticipated title regardless of where it releases. As the conclusion to a pair of the most critically acclaimed games of the 2020s, fans will be clamoring to see how this epic story concludes in its third entry. Here’s hoping Square Enix lives up to its strategy of letting as many players as possible play this new game, no matter their chosen platform.
