Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 focuses on player immersion, helping you connect to Henry and his story along with giving a lot of gameplay mechanics to help with this goal. On top of maintaining his overall health, you’ll also need to worry about Henry’s Energy and Nourishment.

Eating food in other games usually just helps restore health or give boosts, but here it’s a necessity to not only stay full but also to stay well rested. Here’s how to properly maintain Energy and Nourishment along with the penalties for both if they are left unattended.

You can check Energy and Nourishment anytime in the Player menu or in the Advance Time menu.

Nourishment

Nourishment is how well-fed Henry is, and luckily, you don’t need to worry about eating a balanced diet. Eating just about any food will restore some level of nourishment, and you can see exactly how much by opening the journal of that item in your inventory. It’s important to try and never go over a Nourishment of 100, as you can overeat leading to a penalty. Food can go bad depending on how it’s cooked, and you should never eat anything with a condition under 50 otherwise you may get food poisoning.

Alcoholic beverages can also restore a bit of nourishment, but they can also make you drunk.

You can cook, smoke, or dry meat, each changing how quickly the food goes bad and how much nourishment it restores. Eating food also costs energy, so there’s a balance you’ll need to find in what you eat, how often you eat, and when you restore your energy. You can find high-condition food at any grocer or innkeeper, while hunting or visiting a butcher will give you a good source of meat.

Energy

Your energy refers to how tired Henry is, and the only way to restore it is by sleeping. You should aim to never let your energy drop below 50, and it’s good practice to sleep every night for at least eight or nine hours depending on what you did that day. Doing just about anything in the game will use up energy, even just standing around waiting. Sleeping will also drain your nourishment, so it’s important to eat a good dinner right before getting some sleep.

The main issue with Energy is finding somewhere safe to sleep. You’ll want to progress the main story since that will give you access to a few beds throughout the game that can be used whenever you want.

Penalties For Low Energy & Nourishment In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Energy and Nourishment dropping below 50 will lead to various penalties that will get worse depending on how low the number gets. While you can’t oversleep, you can overeat, so in total there are three penalties you need to worry about.

Tiredness

Your Strength, Vitality, Agility, and Charisma are lowered, along with Henry falling asleep while standing up every so often depending on how tired he is. (This will also temporarily lower your carry capacity.)

Hunger

Your maximum stamina is lowered, and you’ll start losing Health once it gets too low.

Overeating
