Summary
- Corinne Busche, the game director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is leaving BioWare.

- BioWare is shifting its focus to the next Mass Effect title, leaving the future of the Dragon Age series unclear.
Corinne Busche, the game director behind the 2024 action RPG Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is officially saying farewell to BioWare. Released in October 2024, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was the long-awaited fourth game in the series, released almost a decade after the last installment.
In the 10 years following the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition in 2014, fans of the franchise became more and more desperate for any details about the next entry in BioWare’s fantasy RPG series. In the end, Dragon Age: The Veilguard saw the return of Solas, who the protagonist must seek to stop from destroying the Veil, the boundary between the physical and spiritual worlds. Several other familiar faces appeared in the title, including Varric, the rogue storyteller, and the shapeshifting Witch of the Wilds, Morrigan. While many fans of the series were pleased by many aspects of The Veilguard, response to the title was polarized online, and now, it looks like BioWare is experiencing a surprising shakeup.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Fans Think One Aspect of Game Was Award-Worthy
Gamers share their thoughts on one aspect of Dragon Age: The Veilguard that they deem to be award-worthy.
A new report from Eurogamer confirms recent rumors that Corinne Busche, the game director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is leaving BioWare. These rumors also claimed that BioWare Edmonton would be closing its doors, though this doesn’t seem to be the case and remains uncorroborated. Before joining BioWare in 2019, Busche helped design several systems across numerous entries in The Sims franchise at Maxis. According to the report confirming Busche’s departure from BioWare, her exit is unrelated to Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s commercial performance, which many have questioned over the past few months. While EA has yet to confirm whether the game’s sales met expectations, the company will reportedly release its recent financial results on February 4.
Though the game saw praise for its environments and combat, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was subject to review bombing following its release, with many accusing the game of being too “woke” and including forced DEI content. Many fans of the franchise also criticized the title’s pacing and writing, with some also frustrated by The Veilguard‘s lore. After a 10-year wait, many players hoped for additional post-launch content. However, shortly after The Veilguard‘s release, BioWare announced that no DLC was in the works, leading to more fan frustration.
BioWare has reportedly shifted its focus towards the next Mass Effect title, which was first announced in 2020. Players are eager to hear more about Mass Effect 4 in 2025, though despite two development teams currently being hard at work on the title, it remains in early development. Dragon Age fans continue to hold out hope for a fifth entry somewhere down the line, though the future of the fantasy series remains unclear.
