Call of Duty Zombies and main easter eggs go hand in hand with each other, and ever since Call of Duty: Black Ops’ map Ascension, players have hunted for easter eggs and main quests that further the stories of the crew that they play as. With well over 30 maps in the Treyarch-led COD Zombies series, it’s time to look back at some of the best main quests in COD Zombies history.

Most of the best easter eggs in COD Zombies involve not only uncovering astounding lore revelations that further the story as a whole, but steps that are actually rather interesting to complete. While some main quests are certainly harder than others, the underlying factor of them all is how riveting the finale is.

7 Revelations

Fetch Quests to End the Apothicon Threat and Repeat the Cycle

  • Associated Achievement: For The Good Of All, A Better Tomorrow

Revelations may not be the most beloved map, and the easter egg might not be the most loved either. However, it’s worth noting that Revelations is a vital accomplishment for Call of Duty Zombies veterans due to how its completion resolves the cycle that has plagued players for years. The easter egg itself consists of a lot of random steps that without a guide, would feel otherwise impossible due to their obscurity.

For the most part, the Revelations easter egg consists of finding obscure things around the map, like a specific rock shape, random bones, and even a fetch quest for the Kronorium. Despite the lengthiness of the quest itself, it’s still rewarding for fans who have been there from the beginning and want to see its end since Revelations was the first time players could actually use the Kronorium and the Summoning Key, and being able to experience a celebration of COD Zombies past and present was a blast.

6 Der Eisendrache

Preserve the Soul of Dempsey 1.0 and Destroy the Moon

  • Featured in: Black Ops 3
  • Associated Achievement: My Brother’s Keeper

The Der Eisendrache map is a fan favorite for many reasons, and its blend of Origins and Mob of the Dead makes it one of the greatest maps of all time. To further enrich the map, the associated easter egg is also a fun time, and not overly complex. Players must upgrade the Wrath of the Ancients Bow, and what proceeds is a series of steps somewhat reminiscent of Moon, albeit with a Primis twist.

With easter egg steps that are rather simple, Der Eisndrache makes for a replayable quest. Der Eisendrache is also the first time in Treyarch Zombies that players must face off against a true boss fight with multiple phases – the Corrupted Keeper. It’s fun, it’s tough, and it’s rewarding, and those who complete it will be rewarded with the destruction of the Moon itself.

5 Ancient Evil

The Closing Chapter of Chaos Involves Greek Mythology

  • Associated Achievement: Greek Tragedy

One of the better maps of the Black Ops 4 era, Ancient Evil brings forth a new path for the Chaos characters, along with some entirely cinematic views. Ancient Evil features in the underground caverns of a time-lost Ancient Greek land, where an Oracle seeks the aid of the characters against the Greek hero Perseus and a zombified Pegasus.

Ancient Evil is beautiful to look at, and the easter egg is rather fun to pull off. What really cements Ancient Evil as a great easter egg is its boss fight, as battling the might of Pegasus and Perseus on Greek cliffs is as cinematic as it gets.

4 Blood of the Dead

Return to Alcatraz and Save the Souls That Are Bound

  • Featured in: Black Ops 4
  • Associated Achievement: Most Escape Alive

One of the debut maps for Black Ops 4 brings players back to Alcatraz, with a revamped and remade version of Black Ops 2’s Mob of the Dead. While Blood of the Dead and the mechanics of Black Ops 4 aren’t exactly in the community’s favor, there are some great things about the easter egg featured, but mainly for its story – as the easter egg itself is a lengthy process for the sadists out there.

The easter egg itself has a bundle of steps, and the map seems to only exist for the sake of the easter egg. Players have so much to do as they interact with the ghosts of Alcatraz, translate the Kronorium, and try to evade the Warden. The steps are difficult, the boss fight is easy, and the cutscene is a real tearjerker for fans of Richtofen.

3 Terminus

Destroy the Experiments of Terminus Island and Escape to Find Richtofen

  • Featured in: Black Ops 6
  • Associated Achievement: No Mo’ Modi

Terminus acts as a big shake-up for Call of Duty Zombies, as most fans would agree that the Black Ops Cold War era was a tad stale when it came to story content. However, Terminus comes in with a bang, along with a respectable horror twist as players try to get the former members of Requiem off the island, but not before taking out the evil Doctor Modi who works with Eddie Richtofen, only to uncover revelations that combines the Dark Aether storyline with that of Chaos from Black Ops 4.

Edward “Eddie” Richtofen could be planning some unique and mysterious things for his grand scheme in Black Ops 6 Zombies.

The steps for Terminus aren’t the most complicated, and it’s nice to have a guiding hand from the comms team of Strauss and Peck. The egg itself does challenge players with a few lockdowns and timed events that spell their end if failed, and the final boss fight of Patient 13 brings eldritch horrors to the map that some still struggle to beat.

2 Origins

Complete the Vorkuta Steps and Free Samantha Maxis in Primis’ Origin

  • Featured in: Black Ops 2, Black Ops 3
  • Associated Achievement: Little Lost Girl

Origins provide players with a new wave of COD Zombies‘ potential, showing the possibilities for main quests and buildables that would feature as future mechanics going forward after Black Ops 2. With Origins, players had a familiar crew to invest in – but one that was entirely new. The characters of Primis are different variants of Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai, and together they must craft the Elemental Staffs to begin the necessary steps to ascend from darkness, raise hell, and reach freedom.

The Origins easter egg utilizes the Vorkuta steps from the original Black Ops campaign, and they are very fitting for Origins. Roaming the trenches and no man’s land of 115-infused World War 1 trenches is incredibly atmospheric, and the easter egg isn’t too difficult to pull off – players just need time on their side, as the easter egg requires a whole lot of upgrades from map-specific weapons to accomplish freedom.

1 Moon

Complete Richtofen’s Grand Scheme, If RNG Allows It

samantha in the mpd

  • Featured in: Black Ops, Black Ops 3
  • Associated Achievement: Cryogenic Slumber Party, Big Bang Theory

Moon was really the first time in COD Zombies where the completion of a main quest within the series felt truly rewarding in terms of scope and Perks. Moon would see players trade Richtofen’s soul with Samantha’s, providing zombies with a new blue color for their eyes, and allowing those who play as Richtofen to hear Samantha’s voicelines instead. Moon truly is a celebration of the maps that came before it, and it’s the first time players bear witness to Samantha in the flesh.

On top of amazing lore implications, and a grandiose finale that sees players blow up the Earth, Moon is a fun and simple easter egg with fewer steps. Most of the steps require interacting with computer terminals or using map-specific weapons, but the true misery of the easter egg lies in the RNG required, as some players might have to wait many rounds before the Excavator hits Tunnel 6, and even longer for the Mystery Box to bless them with the QEDs, Wave Gun, and Gersh Device.
