- Black Ops 6 players question why Treyarch released dedicated Gunfight maps, only to completely remove the mode from the game’s rotation.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players are growing concerned that developer Treyarch Studios may have completely forgotten about a popular game mode: Gunfight. The 2v2 multiplayer mode was a big selling point in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta, with Treyarch even releasing dedicated new maps for the mode with Season 1, but seemingly forgetting to add the mode into the game’s playlist rotation for the last six weeks.
Like many other Call of Duty titles, Black Ops 6 receives new playlist updates regularly. While these updates don’t bring any new content with them, they do mix up which modes can be played by fans, usually on a weekly basis. One of the most popular playlists to feature in Black Ops 6 since its release is Stakeout 24/7. The playlist allows players to jump into the small, fast-paced multiplayer map Stakeout without having to wait for it to appear in the map rotation. Staekout 24/7 features a variety of game modes, including Kill Confirmed, Domination, Team Deathmatch, and Kill Order. But with each passing playlist update, Black Ops 6 fans grow more and more disappointed as Gunfight is still yet to make a return.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Players Want Gunfight to Return
Gunfight is a popular mode in Black Ops 6 that first debuted in the game’s open beta weekend. Like past iterations of the mode, Gunfight is a 2v2 mode that takes place on small maps such as Stakeout and Gala. It features random loadouts, has no respawns, and no health regeneration. The mode has been massively popular for many years now, so fans are baffled as to why Treyarch hasn’t brought it back for six weeks now. In a new post on Reddit, user Masked555 questioned whether or not Treyarch has forgotten that the mode exists.
The post saw plenty of other players express their desire to see Gunfight return, while some took the opportunity to point out some other playlist issues with the latest Call of Duty game. Reddit user JeeringDragon noted that Treyarch has also “[given] up” fixing Black Ops 6‘s free-for-all mode, as the iconic mode still counts assists as eliminations, leading to confusion among players about who has actually won. The user then questioned what Treyarch is even working on if this iconic mode remains broken after all these weeks.
While it may be a small issue in the grand scheme of things, popular modes being either broken or completely absent for many weeks could be one of the reasons as to why Black Ops 6‘s player count has continued to dwindle on Steam since its launch in October 2024. The shooter has seen almost 50% of its player base on Steam disappear, with many citing poor server issues and the massive hacking problem as the reason for the game’s sudden downfall.
