  • The update adds a fishing mechanic, new music track, and quality-of-life improvements for Vi’s Beemerang in battle.

Publisher Dangen Entertainment and developer Moonsprout Games have released a surprise update for Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling to celebrate the game’s fifth anniversary. The update brings Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling to version 1.2 and is available for all platforms the indie game has released on, including PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This update adds a bunch of new content for fans of the game to tackle after finishing the main story campaign.

First released in 2019, Bug Fables is an indie RPG inspired by Nintendo and Intelligent Systems’ Paper Mario series, specifically the first N64 game and its sequel, The Thousand-Year Door. Controlling a party of three bugs, Vi, Kabbu, and Leif, the player explores the land of Bugaria in order to obtain the titular Everlasting Sapling, meeting other bugs along the way. Bug Fables earned a lot of praise from gamers and critics for its characters, combat system, and content, especially in the post-game. While it was first released on the Nintendo Switch in 2019, it came onto other platforms like the PC and PlayStation a year later. Five years after the game’s initial release, fans can now revisit the indie RPG with a lot more post-game content than ever before.

Version 1.2 of Bug Fables was recently released across all platforms for free, boasting a number of new features and content. The most prevalent part of this update is the new post-game content for Bug Fables, which includes a new series of endgame bosses. There are also 11 new medals to collect that end up altering the gameplay of Bug Fables.

Bug Fables’ latest update also adds a fishing mechanic, where players can catch various worms from the lake, which are cataloged in a separate compendium. The player can also recruit a number of allies in the game and have them fight alongside the party members of Bug Fables as well. A new music track has also been added to the game as well.

This patch for Bug Fables also includes some quality-of-life improvements, such as Vi’s Beemerange now having the option to lock angles to the nearest eight cardinal directions in battle. In addition, the developers thanked the Bug Fables community for the support they have received over the past five years. This update should be a great thing for fans of Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling to revisit, and a good opportunity for newcomers to jump in as well.
