Brighter Shores is the newest title released by Andrew Gower, creator of the incredibly popular MMORPG, Runescape, promising fans of the classic title hundreds of hours of gameplay and a plethora of new professions to master. Many of these professions will be familiar to Runescape players, like Chef or Fisher, Brighter Shores looks to distinguish itself with its own unique professions like Minefighter, Watchperson, and Detective.

Forager, an early profession introduced during Brighter Shores’ tutorial, allows players to gather materials naturally occurring throughout the world, which are used as crafting materials by other professions such as alchemists. Foraging doesn’t come without a cost, however, as some foraged items require players to obtain foraging equipment such as secateurs in order to gather them. Learn where to obtain secateurs, the first piece of foraging equipment players can obtain, with this guide.

Secateurs are the first piece of equipment Foragers can obtain starting from Forager level 2. It can be simply purchased by speaking to Ella in the Forager’s Warehouse on Old Street East, located directly east of the Town Square. The pruning shears don’t come cheap, however, costing players 13 silver and 200 copper to obtain.

Players just starting out on their journey may not be able to afford secateurs as soon as they reach Forager level 2. In order to earn money, players will have to make use of their professions to gather or craft valuable items and sell them to appropriate NPCs around the world. Some ways to earn currency include:

Method

Guard

  • Defeating enemies
  • Selling equipment drops to the Quartermaster in the Training Grounds

Chef

  • Selling cooked recipes to the Head Chef in The Delectable Dab’s kitchen

Fisher

  • Selling fish to Melv’s Fishing Supplies in the Town Square

Forager

  • Selling foraged materials to Ella in The Forager’s Warehouse

Alchemist

  • Selling potions to The Apothecary Shop in Stone Street

One easy way to earn money is to level the Chef profession, and selling Bacon Sandwiches to the Head Chef for a profit. Bread and Raw Bacon can be purchased from Kevin’s Ingredients on Stone Street just outside the Training Grounds, and cooked in the kitchen of The Delectable Dab right next door. Purchasing one piece of Bread and one piece of Raw Bacon costs a total of 400 copper, but selling a cooked Bacon Sandwich to the Head Chef earns players 460 copper, giving players a simple way to earn money while also leveling up their Chef profession.

What Are Secateurs Used For In Brighter Shores?

Secateurs are required to gather certain advanced materials as part of the Forager profession. The earliest foraging item requiring secateurs are creamy wallplants at Forager level 2, which can be combined with brown kelp by level 2 Alchemists to create 20% Healing Potions. White Periwinkles, available to gather at Forager level 4, also make use of secateurs, and are used by level 4 Alchemists as part of the recipe for 5% Hopeport Experience potions, increasing the amount of experience earned for 2 minutes.
