Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War enters its final stage with the Wahr Welt arc. The Shinigami regroup and with its strongest warriors invade the Quincy city. The most powerful members of the Gotei 13 face off against the Quincy royal guard and the Quincy King, Yhwach. Besides the already familiar faces on the side of the Shinigami, there are many returning characters that fans haven’t seen for a long time. Captain Commander Shunsui Kyoraku needs all the hands he can get for this final battle.
There are several returning faces that fans may or may not recognize and even less their background. So here is your refresher on all the returning characters for the Wahr Welt arc of Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War.

Returning Shinigami, All Hands On Deck
The Lesser Known Members of the Gotei 13
The most notable returning characters are all members of the Gotei 13. Important soldiers from different squads joined in the fight against the Quincy. These are the most notable Shinigami present in Kyoraku’s squad.
Isane Kotetsu, Squad 4 Vice Captain
Isane is the current vice-captain of squad four. She served under former captain Retsu Unohana for many years until she sacrificed her life to nurture the next Kenpachi, Captain Zaraki. Isane is currently by far the most capable healer in the Gotei 13. But her fighting abilities leave much to be desired, unlike her former captain who was an unquestionable master of swordsmanship and perhaps one of the most powerful Shinigami to ever live.

Kiyone Kotetsu, Ukitake’s Loyal Aide
Kiyone is the 3rd seat of Squad 13. And also the sister of Isane Kotetsu. Most notably, she served as Captain Ukitake’s loyal aide. Helping him during his many years of paralyzing health. Kiyone, similar to her sister, has never been seen actively fighting.

Sentaro Kotsubaki, Ukitake’s other Aide
Sentaro is the current 3rd seat of Squad 13, alongside Kiyone. And just like Kiyone, his duty was mostly to assist Captain Ukitake. Sentaro is also not much of a fighter, but he is considered to be far stronger than his friend Kiyone.
Momo Hinamori, Aizen’s Past Victim
Momo is the current vice-captain of Squad 5. She is most famous for being one of Sousuke Aizen’s greatest victims, as she was manipulated and tortured by her former captain. Now she lives a much more peaceful life being the vice-captain for another of Aizen’s victims: Shinji Hirako. Momo is also the childhood friend of Captain Hitsugaya. She is very proficient at Kidou, and wields the explosion-based Zanpakutou, Tobiume.

Hanatarou Yamada, Healing Underdog
Hanatarou is the current third seat of Squad 4. While he’s known for being incredibly cowardly and whiny, he has assisted with his expert healing numerous times. He was first seen during the Soul Society arc assisting his supposed enemies Ichigo Kurosaki and Ganju Shiba. Hanatarou may not seem mentally capable for war but he is more than skilled at healing.
The Vizoreds, Back in Action
From Exile to Allies in the War
The Thousand-Year Blood War also sees the return of the Vizoreds. A group of Shinigami with Hollow powers that were unfairly exiled from Soul Society. They were Hollowfied by Sousuke Aizen, and after refining their powers in the World of the Living, they learned to use their Hollow Masks to aid them in battle. While the most powerful members had already returned as captains, like Shinji Hirako, Kensei Muguruma, and Rojuro Otoribashi. The others now return in the final arc.
Mashiro Kuna, The Super Vice Captain
Mashiro is the current co-vice-captain of Squad 9. She shares this position with Shuuhei Hisagi. Her captain is her Vizored friend, Kensei Muguruma. Mashiro is a very powerful warrior who specializes in close combat and incredible speed. She is extremely lively and extroverted and has a very close relationship with Kensei.

Hachigen Usoda, The Kido Expert
Hachigen is one of the Vizoreds who stays in the World of the Living. He was the former vice-captain of the Kido Corps. He is a top-of-the-line expert at Kido. He’s massive, wise, and soft-spoken. Previously he battled Segunda Espada Barragan Luisenbarn along with Captain Soi Fon and Vice Captain Marechiyo Omaeda.
Love Aikawa, The Bruiser
Love is another of the Vizoreds in the World of the Living. He is incredibly powerful and steadfast. He was the former captain of Squad 7 100 years ago. He previously battled Primera Espada, Coyote Starrk along with Rojuro and Shunsui Kyoraku. Now he sort of acts as the leader of the group.
Lisa Yadomaru, The Connection to Kyoraku
Lisa is another Vizored in the World of the Living. 100 years ago she was the vice captain of Squad 8 under Shunsui Kyoraku. She also was an older sister figure to current vice-captain of Squad 1 Nanao Ise. Lisa comes back to reassure her foster sister in the final arc.
Hiyori Sarugaki, Shinji’s Best Friend
Hiyori is the former vice-captain of Squad 12. 100 years ago she served under captain Kisuke Urahara. Now she stays in the World of the Living along with her friends. She is known for being Shinji Hirako’s best friend and the two act as rambunctious siblings.
These are all the major returning characters that are part of the Gotei 13 or the Vizoreds. While many of these warriors are not necessarily all that skilled in combat, the Shinigami need all the hands they can get during this final battle against the Quincy.
