Key Takeaways
- Black Myth: Wukong’s producer Feng Ji hinted at “some surprises” possibly coming to the game “later this year.”
- Many believe that Game Science is aiming to release DLC content near the Chinese New Year, which falls on January 29, 2025.
- While an Xbox Series X/S port of the game is planned, no release date has been announced.
Black Myth: Wukong producer Feng Ji has revealed that certain surprises might be announced for the game before the year ends. Ji, who heads Black Myth: Wukong developer Game Science as its founder-CEO, teased what seems to be the game’s post-launch content at a recently concluded award show.
Being one of the more highly anticipated games to come out in recent years, Black Myth: Wukong experienced a monumental launch in August and racked up millions of sales in its first month. On the back of a strong debut, it quickly rose through the ranks to become the single-player game with the most concurrent players on Steam in history, with over 2.4 million users playing at one time. Due to its overwhelming success, the action RPG recently bagged the Ultimate Game of the Year award at the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards and is currently in the running for more accolades at future events.

Of the six games nominated for 2024 Game of the Year, Black Myth: Wukong garners attention as a standout choice, but not for the right reasons.
In his acceptance speech aired at the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards, Game Science chief Feng Ji hinted at “some surprises” possibly coming to Black Myth: Wukong “later this year,” fueling rumors of a potential DLC. While not revealing much about what these surprises may be, the game director suggested that it may be something that also interests Black Myth: Wukong players who have already finished the game. The Golden Joystick Awards win marks the second Game of the Year recognition that the Journey to the West-inspired title has won so far, with the other being at the Thailand Game Awards in October. In addition to the big one, Black Myth also won the Golden Joystick Award for Best Visual Design.
Black Myth: Wukong Dev Alludes to Post-Launch Content Announcement in the Near Future
Feng Ji’s latest comments essentially establish that the Chinese developer is working towards unveiling what’s next for Black Myth: Wukong in the coming weeks. This new revelation may be linked to a recent report that claimed Game Science is aiming to release DLC content near the Chinese New Year, which falls on January 29, 2025. Connecting the dots here, it seems probable that Ji was alluding to the announcement of Black Myth: Wukong‘s rumored DLC being very close.
Celebrations may not be over yet for Game Science as Black Myth: Wukong finds itself among the Game of the Year nominees at The Game Awards, taking place on December 12. Despite being noticeably behind the other contenders in this category when it comes to critic scores, the studio hopes that the Chinese mythology-based game can rope in another major win. As for the fans, many would probably be happy to hear an update about Black Myth: Wukong‘s long-overdue Xbox port, which still doesn’t have a release date.
