Call of Duty has been the most beloved FPS franchise since the early 2000s, but after making the jump to iOS and Android in 2019, it became one of the biggest mobile game launches of all time. During the year of its release, Call of Duty: Mobile won Best Mobile Game at the annual Game Awards alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare taking home the prize for Best Audio Design. With Call of Duty: Mobile also came a Zombies mode, which has become a staple for the series, and the game has been downloaded more than a billion times in total since its release.

As part of Season 11, Call of Duty: Mobile recently brought back The Winter War, which features the debut of Demolition alongside limited-time modes called Big Head Blizzard and Winter Prop Hunt. Winter War 2 went live on December 11, but as the game has been going strong for almost six years, some players may feel as though the gameplay has turned stale. Or, alternatively, perhaps they’re looking for a like-minded challenge. Either way, herre are some iOS and Android titles similar to Call of Duty: Mobile to scratch that itch.

5 Combat Master

All The Nostalgia Without The Mean Lobbies

A lot of faithful Call of Duty players have found that the franchise has lost its appeal over the years, which left its player base chasing the nostalgia that came with Black Ops and Nuketown. Combat Master successfully revives the enjoyment of the old-school Call of Duty games while also keeping in line with the modernized version of the multiplayer format that makes Call of Duty: Mobile such a delight. It essentially plays like Modern Warfare, except it’s completely free to download.

There’s also one more takeaway from Combat Master that puts it on a pedestal even above Call of Duty‘s standards, and that’s its friendly users. Call of Duty lobbies are infamous for being, well… not the nicest. Combat Master is not only a well-made substitute, but the players are much more forgiving and approachable overall. Plus, there’s no money-pulling mechanics, so there’s no advantage to paying users over the free, standard version, and it’s completely ad-free, which is always a nice bonus.

4 Battle Prime

Unparalleled Graphics On a Custom Engine

Since Battle Prime wasn’t ever marketed to the same level as either Call of Duty or PUBG, its player base is fairly slim, which is a real shame. Through no fault of its own, Battle Prime has been lost to the sea of FPS games and its removal from the iOS App Store hasn’t helped its popularity, but it’s still a strong contender for a Call of Duty wannabe. Its gameplay is a lot more tactical as it runs on a custom gaming engine, which means the graphics are unmatched. Environmental enhancements like dynamic weather and photo-realistic locations also add to the immersive aspect of the gameplay.

There is a huge selection of weapons and ample options for custom loadouts, as well as every player character or “Prime” possessing a special skill that can be utilized while in a match. Battle Prime monetizes its content through the means of a battle pass, cosmetic purchases, and an ongoing subscription service. Players earn an in-game currency for completing matches that levels up the “Prime” classes, so the leveling system remains fun and rewarding. It’s definitely one of the top FPS games out there that’s easily on par with Call of Duty: Mobile.

3 Arena Breakout

For fans of realistic extraction shooters, Arena Breakout is the pièce de résistance. The game can be played solo or with a team of up to four players, but any gear that players are wearing when they spawn will be permanently lost if they die. Weapon modifications are huge for Arena Breakout especially, as it’s literally possible to equip a weapon with four tactical sights — obviously overkill — just because the game doesn’t cap it. Headshots or gunshots that otherwise enter the vicinity of the face result in an instant death if protective gear isn’t equipped. Legs and arms can be broken (yes, horrifying) so that it’s more difficult to run and/or aim.

Arena Breakout definitely hammers home the realism factor, so if that’s something that appeals to certain Call of Duty fans, they’ll certainly find plenty to feast on. It could also be considered a clone of Escape From Tarkov, as it’s near-enough a direct copy with a few subtle changes to make it uniquely enjoyable. It’s not as clunky as Tarkov, and it’s very well optimized, so it’s the more favorable choice of the two aside from giving Call of Duty: Mobile a run for its money.

2 Tacticool

A Pay-To-Win System That Incentivizes Players To Grind And Upgrade

A lot of iOS and Android games are sneakily addictive. They start out as simple pastimes and before anyone knows what hit them, they’re pouring hours into an FPS as if nothing else in the world matters. Tacticool is one of those guilty pleasures, which can be just as engaging as titles like Clash Royale and DreamQuest, but for reasons of its own. It’s more inclined toward a pay-to-win system than some of the other Call of Duty: Mobile lookalikes, so that might be a deal-breaker for some players and an added incentive for others, depending on one’s personal preferences.

Although the game operates with a pay-to-win mechanic, it’s easier to grind and reach higher levels without breaking the bank so long as players link up with a clan. Playing alone can be more tedious and incentivizes players to spend money for better upgrades, but joining forces with high-ranking players is a good way to make the most out of Tacticool without spending heaps of money.

1 Modern Ops

New Updates Keep The Content Fun and Refreshingly Casual

If players are looking for an FPS with an engaging narrative, Modern Ops isn’t the go-to choice, but for a game with adaptable controls, impressive graphics, and a whole host of vibrant skins for weapons, there’s never a dull moment. Some of the game’s biggest selling points include over 30 customizable weapon varieties, from pistols and shotguns to snipers and assault rifles, as well as a whole host of unique maps, real-time team battles, and an enthralling promotion system that allows players to be added to higher-ranking leagues upon completion of season passes.

As part of its December update, Modern Ops added the ability to choose individual play styles — Sniper, Grenadier, Fortress, or Alpha — and added all new firearms, melee weapons, and holiday skins for a festive touch. The developers are consistently introducing new updates to keep the gameplay fresh and exhilarating, but Modern Ops is plainly just an effortlessly fun, casual FPS that isn’t difficult to excel at.
