Just about any item players pick up in NieR: Automata can be sold at any merchant for money. While selling drops from machines is an easy way to earn money, it’s not the only thing a lot of items in the game are used for, and you may end up accidentally selling something you need later on.
Some items also sell for a lot better price than others, so it may sometimes not even be worth selling something as the work isn’t worth the cost. Here are the best things you can sell and what you should use all that extra money on.

Best Items To Sell In NieR: Automata
The key way to know if something should be sold or not is if it has the “Can be exchanged for money” note in the item’s description. While all items can be sold for money, this note indicates that not only will that item sell for a lot, but it also has no other use in the game beyond being sold. Some prime examples of items that can and should be sold for money are:
- Any fish or junk you catch while fishing.
- Jewelry
- Masks
- Animal meat
While many of the other items may not seem like it, they are almost all upgrade materials for various weapons and pod upgrades. There are so many weapons in the game you can find and use, and you’ll want to be sure you can upgrade your favorites as soon as you find them instead of going back and farming for a resource you had many of.

While there are many things you can sell for money, you’ll still want to make sure you’re spending your money in the best way. There are three main things players should spend their money on, outside of additional consumables to use in combat.

Explanation |
---|---|
Upgrade Plug-In Chip Capacity |
At the Maintenance Shop in the Resistance Camp, you can purchase additional storage for your plug-in chips. This benefits all three loadouts even if you die. |
Fuse Plug-In Chips |
Fusing lower-tier chips together will make the resulting chip much more efficient. It will take dozens of the same chip to get to the highest tier of chips, while also costing a good bit for each fusion. |
Upgrade Weapons & Pod |
Upgrading your pod and weapons won’t cost much, but you’ll spend time getting the other resources and won’t want to run into yet another hurdle when trying to perfect your build. |
