kingdom come deliverance 2 back in the saddle walkthrough

After Lord Otto von Bergow’s return saved Sir Hans from the gallows during the For Whom the Bell Tolls quest, he now has a diplomatic mission for the Lord of Pirkstein and his squire Henry. As part of the main quest line, the two of them are to set off to Nebakov Fortress and treat with the local knight who holds it.

Completing the mission is far from difficult and can be done fairly quickly, but Henry has lots of options for what to do during the Back in the Saddle quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

How To Complete Back In The Saddle In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 - Nebakov Fortress

As they start ‘Back in the Saddle’, players will first need to talk to and follow Chamberlain Ulrich. He will lead Henry to a bed where Henry is free to sleep and save. Henry’s chest is also there, so make sure to pick up your gear.

Players should then talk to Hired Hand Kabat about getting a horse. They can either take Pebbles back or opt for Herring with better stats. Henry can also receive some riding advice from Kabat.

Remember to equip your chosen horse with its tack such as a saddle and bridle.

This can be a good time to resume exploration and complete side quests, as Henry has his stuff back and there’s no timed rush.

Ride To Nebakov With Sir Hans

When players are ready, they can talk to Hans and set off to Nebakov. While talking, one of the dialogue options is marked with a heart, which is the first of many steps in a possible romance between the two protagonists. For now, this option simply sees Henry and Hans have a quick heart-to-heart, reaffirming their friendship after recent troubles.

Once mounted and on the road, Hans will ask Henry a few questions, and players have a few replies to choose from with no real consequences. Hans will also offer to race Henry a short distance, but don’t worry about winning, Hans is expected to win.

When Hans asks his next lot of questions, players have the option to fast-travel to Nebakov, but it isn’t too far, and riding manually will level up Henry’s Horsemanship skill.

Arriving At Nebakov & Talking To Michael

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 - Michael the Adjudant

When Henry and Hans arrive at Nebakov, Hans and Sir Jaromir will go off to talk, leaving Adjutant Michael to show Henry around. Sit down and eat with Michael, and among other things, there is an option to ask about how his lord has so many horses. Remember his answer for future interactions.

Michael will also offer to fight Henry in a friendly duel. This is a fairly tough encounter for those who haven’t leveled up their combat skills, but losing doesn’t matter. If Henry wins, however, he will be gifted some Rowel Spurs.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 - Klara's Hut - Nebakov Fortress

No matter the result, Michael will tell Henry that Klara, just down the slope can heal Henry. Players should go to her anyway for the free healing, but this can also lead to a romance opportunity with Klara.

Find Out The Truth About The Horses At Nebakov

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 - Back In The Saddle - Villager With Information

While Henry is free to do as he pleases and will complete the quest easily from this point, he could try and find out how Lord Jaromir is doing so well with 15 horses.

First, players can head outside the Fortress and look for a villager in brown. He will insinuate that Henry should follow him into the woods. Follow and he will tell Henry that not all is as it seems at Nebakov.

Win The Horse Race To Get Information

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 - Back In The Saddle - Pertzel Horse Race

Upon returning, Henry can talk to the horse handler Pertzel who is by the outside stables. If players pass one of the checks, depending on their stats and attire, Pertzel may tell Henry about the horses outright.

Otherwise, Henry will have to win a horse race to get the information out of him. To win, don’t follow the road and instead go down the slope to the right. On the return leg, part of this corner can be cut again.

but Pertzel will now tell him a different story about how they acquired so many horses. His testimony does not line up with Michaels, and paired with the villager’s information, Henry now has enough evidence to be highly suspicious.

Find The Key & Talk To The Prisoner

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 - Back In The Saddle - Prison Door & Key Location

Head back to the fortress, to the area where Henry talked with Michael. Look for a guard standing by a door, with another door directly above. Go to the upstairs door and through another one to the opposite room. Inside there is a key on the table for the prisons.

Be wary as this area is off-limits. Check for guards, don’t make noise, and close all doors after leaving.

Finally, head back down to the guard by the lower door. Talk to him and players will hopefully get a chance to try and convince him that Sir Jaromir needs his help. If the skill check succeeds, players will be free to unlock the prison door and talk to the prisoner.

Pieced together with everything learned so far and the prisoner’s claim, Henry has more than enough alarming news to tell Hans and Lord von Bergow.

Upon arriving, players can decide to go see von Bergow at once or rest and do other things. Talking to Otto von Bergow allows Henry to warn him about what’s really happening at Nebakov, and this will complete the Back in the Saddle quest for KCD2.
