12-Year-Old Simpsons Game is Shutting Down
A long-running The Simpsons game reveals that it’s going to shut down in the near future, upsetting long-time fans of the title.
Now it’s been confirmed that EA Sports UFC 3 will be shutting down on February 17, 2025, a little over seven years after it first hit store shelves. Developed by EA Canada and released in 2018 on PS4 and Xbox One, EA Sports UFC 3 earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its release, though its microtransactions were controversial. Like other EA games, it features extensive online functionality, and so when it’s shut down on February 17, all of those features will cease to exist.
List of EA Games Shutting Down in 2025
- Rory McIlroy PGA Tour – January 16, 2025

- Blood & Glory: Immortals – January 29, 2025

While it’s definitely disappointing that UFC 3 is shutting down, the good news is that there are newer UFC games that are still fully playable. 2020’s UFC 4 still has online functionality, as does 2023’s UFC 5. In fact, UFC 5 is still getting substantial updates. EA has not announced any plans to shut down the online services for those particular games, though it will happen eventually. It’s become clear that it’s just a matter of time before games like these lose their online features, and so consumers have to take that into consideration whenever they buy them.
Luckily, the vast majority of EA’s newer games can be played without actually buying them. If one is signed up for an EA Play subscription, or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, they get access to new EA games usually within six months after they launch. This way, gamers can play EA titles that they’re interested in without buying the games outright. It’s not a perfect solution by any means, but it may make it sting less whenever a game shuts down its online modes or is delisted.
