Key Takeaways
Table of Contents
- Alice in Borderland Season 3 confirmed for 2025 by Netflix.
- Uncertainty on how the new season will handle the story moving forward.
- Possibility of new characters entering deadly games in upcoming installment.
It’s been two years since fans of the Netflix streaming series Alice in Borderland last saw a new season. It had been long enough that some wondered if the hit Japanese science fiction show was dead and gone. However, Netflix sent out a signal earlier this week that not only is Season 3 on the way, but it doesn’t appear the wait will be all that long.
Once again, the series will follow a group of friends who were mysteriously transported to a post-apocalyptic Tokyo in which the rulers are deadly game masters. Just how the series will pick up a Season 3 of Alice in Borderland is wide open as Season 2 more-or-less wrapped the story of Arisu and his friends. However, the show did several threads that could be picked up and ran with for this upcoming next installment. While there isn’t an official date yet, there is at least a window on when fans can expect to see which direction the Netflix original goes next.

Alice In Borderland Returning In 2025
Netflix announced that Alice in Borderland Season 3 will arrive sometime in 2025. With the lateness of the announcement for this year, it seems more than likely that the new installment won’t be on the streamer until the summer at the absolute earliest. Fall seems more likely but the first two seasons were both released in December so it is possible that viewers will have to wait more than a year to see just where the story goes.
The most important point that could affect the new season of Alice in Borderland is that, in theory, most characters have no memory whatsoever of what happened in Borderland, so the show would have to do some interesting trickeration in order to bring most of the main cast back to the dystopian and mysterious world where deadly games are played at random intervals. There is also the idea that this time the game could go to the players, perhaps bringing Borderland into modern Tokyo, though that seems like it would be a hard trick to pull off. It’s also possible with so long a break between Season 2 and Season 3 that it could a bunch of new faces getting forced to play the games.
Season 2 saw Arisu and his friends seemingly clear the games after going head-to-head with the Queen of Hearts. She told them that Borderland is actually a virtual simulation and that they are 1,000 years in the future, but there is some doubt as to whether she was telling the truth.
However, with the main stars of Alice in Borderland seemingly playing their way to the end of the games, it is possible the Netflix series, which is based on a popular Manga, will instead focus on other characters that are either drawn into a new set of games or focus on those who played alongside Arisu but were able to avoid some of the more deadly games. Fans of the series will get to find out, sometime in 2025.
