2011 PS3 Game With 'Very Positive' Reviews is Making a Comeback on PS5

2011 PlayStation 3 game El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is coming to PS5. Developed by Ignition Tokyo and published by UTV Ignition Games, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron was originally released for PS3 and Xbox 360. A decade later, it made its way to PC as an HD remaster. The latest platform that the game was released for was the Nintendo Switch, having launched on the home console/handheld hybrid earlier this year.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron HD Remaster released for the Switch this past April. At the time, fans were confused as to why the El Shaddai HD remaster skipped PlayStation and Xbox consoles in favor of the Switch, especially since the original game was released for PS3 and 360. There’s still no word on an Xbox port of the game, but it has now been confirmed that the game is indeed in the works for the PlayStation 5.

In a Denfaminicogamer stream at Tokyo Game Show 2024 (as reported by Gematsu), El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron director Sawaki Takeyasu confirmed that a PlayStation 5 version of the game is in development. It’s unclear exactly when the game will be available on PS5, but it’s nice to know that the project is in development.

El Shaddai is Coming to PS5

The PC version of El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron HD Remaster has enjoyed some success on Steam. In fact, the game has earned “Very Positive” overall reviews from Steam users, indicating that it’s a quality port. Unless something catastrophic happens, one can safely assume that the PS5 version of the game will be of similar quality, or maybe even better, depending on how it takes advantage of the system’s features. No concrete details are available for the PS5 port at the time of this writing, so fans will have to stay tuned for more information on that front.

For those unfamiliar with the game, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron was under-appreciated at the time of its release, but is now looked back on as somewhat of a cult classic. Taking inspiration from the Bible for its story, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron features a blend of platformer gameplay with hack-and-slash combat. The game features both 2D and 3D sections, making it rather unique in its presentation. Those that enjoyed the original will no doubt appreciate the chance to revisit it on PS5, whenever that version drops, while those that missed out on the original release should certainly consider giving it a go if they haven’t already checked out the HD remaster on Steam or Switch.
