Stephen Colbert shuts down JD Vance’s attempts to normalise Trump in VP debate
One of JD Vance’s main aims during the VP debate seemed to be an attempted normalisation of Trump’s very not-normal policies and actions.
In the Late Show clip above, though, Stephen Colbert is having none of it. The host plays clips of Vance arguing that Trump saved Obamacare and that he isn’t a threat to democracy before quickly shutting them down.
“That kind of junior high debate team sophistry is exactly the worst kind of behaviour intelligent people use to justify evil,” says Colbert, before launching into a Vance impression. “You know when you think about it, it could be argued that Godzilla really spearheaded Tokyo’s urban renewal. And he wouldn’t have to use his nuclear breath if we just had more domestic energy production.”
