While his absence at the ceremony was disappointing, Sir Elton took a moment to reflect on the lifelong adventures that have shaped his career, saying, “Although I am gutted that I couldn’t be there to accept this award in person, my recent knee operation serves as a gentle reminder of the countless years I spent energetically leaping off pianos. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the @televisionacad and all those who took the time to cast their votes. This award is a testament to the collaborative efforts and boundless creativity of an extraordinary team.”

Sir Elton also expressed his profound gratitude to the “incredible special guests” who joined him on stage during that extraordinary night – Dua Lipa, Brandi Carlile, and Kiki Dee. He also offered his sincerest appreciation to the remarkable band and the entire crew behind the monumental Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

To join the esteemed ranks of EGOT winners is a tremendous honor for Sir Elton, who passionately believes in the unparalleled power of music and the enchantment it brings to our lives. “Honoured to have joined the hallowed ranks of EGOT winners, here’s to the joy of music and the magic it brings to our lives,” he added.

Accepting the award on behalf of Sir Elton, producer Ben Winston acknowledged the significance of the moment: “I am not Elton John, sadly he had a knee op. He’s absolutely fine but wanted to send his love and thanks to the Television Academy for this incredible award. We knew this show would be historic because it was going to be Elton’s last ever show in North America on tour. We knew it would be historic because it was Disney’s first live global stream. We didn’t know it would be historic because it was going to win a man – who has created the soundtrack to our lives, he’s done so much great for society, who is all of our hero’s – we didn’t know it would win him an EGOT.”

It is important to note that there are also distinguished non-competitive EGOT winners, including luminaries such as Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, and Quincy Jones, where one of their awards was honorary or non-competitive. Their contributions to the arts are indisputably remarkable.
