Late Show Daily Show

CBS’ “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” are set to travel to Chicago for a week of shows during the Democratic National Convention next week. On the docket: A Kamala Harris biofilm created by “The Daily Show” team and a guest list on “The Late Show” that includes Hillary Rodham Clinton and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The two shows’ DNC plans dwarf what they ultimately were able to do last month during the Republican National Convention. In particular, “The Daily Show” had planned to hail that week from Milwaukee, but then the assassination attempt on Donald Trump changed those plans. Instead, “The Daily Show” canceled its Monday telecast that week, and kept to its usual New York City homebase the rest of the week.

This time out, “The Daily Show’s” “Indecision 2024” coverage will include four nights at the Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.

The Harris biofilm is the latest in a popular series of shorts on key leaders; the biofilms even landed “The Daily Show” an Emmy nomination this year for “The Dailyshowography Of Vivek Ramaswamy: Enter The RamaVerse,” competing in the outstanding picture editing for variety programming (segment) category.

Also next week, “The Daily Show” will feature correspondent Jordan Klepper touring Chicago with Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker. And the show promises several more pieces that they’re shooting across the course of the week on the floor of the DNC with “The Daily Show” news team.

As for “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” plans are to broadcast every night live at 11:35 p.m. ET (delayed on the west coast) from Monday, Aug. 19 through Thursday, Aug. 22, from the Auditorium Theatre in downtown Chicago, right off of Grant Park.

Guests are subject to change, but for now, the Monday, Aug. 19 episode is set to feature former Sec. of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus; Tuesday, Aug. 20 will include guests Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries; and Wednesday, Aug. 21 will include Sec. of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, with a performance by Chicago’s own Chance the Rapper. No guests have yet been announced for the Thursday, Aug. 22 episode.
