Avowed Apparently Has an 'Exceptionally Rare' Ending
Summary
- Avowed’s composer recently revealed that the RPG has an “exceptionally rare” ending sequence.
- The rare ending is not canon to Avowed’s narrative, but is supposedly fun and interesting in a musical sense.
- In order to unlock the rare ending, Avowed players will have to make specific decisions throughout the game and fail a final speech check.
The composer for Avowed has revealed that the newly-launched fantasy RPG has an ultra-rare ending that might not be discovered by more than a handful of players. While some may believe Avowed’s multiple ending sequences and choice-based story beats can make it difficult to figure out how to unlock the rare ending, the composer did provide some hints that can help steer players towards the right track.
As the latest title from renowned RPG developer Obsidian Entertainment, Avowed launched earlier this week and has largely garnered praise for its deep storytelling, complex story and character choices, and the impact of player decisions on the game’s world. Much in line with prior Obsidian games, the decisions made by players in Avowed can lead to different endings.

Avowed Almost Was Like a Multiplayer Take on Skyrim
A new interview reveals that Obsidian originally intended to develop Avowed as a multiplayer take on Skyrim before pivoting to the current concept.
The exact number is unknown, but Avowed‘s director did confirm double-digit ending sequences for the RPG last year. Players must have experienced some of these endings by now, but Avowed composer Venus Theory has teased an “exceptionally rare” ending that may not be very straightforward to unlock. In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Venus Theory said that this Avowed ending is likely not canon, but is a “fun one” regardless. He further explained that the ending was really challenging and interesting to design in a musical sense.
Avowed’s Rare Ending Isn’t Very Challenging to Unlock, But Requires Specific Player Decisions
Venus Theory understandably didn’t delve too deep into the specifics of this ending, but did allude to some methods players can follow to trigger it. He stated that it’s not particularly difficult to achieve Avowed‘s super-rare ending, but it requires a set of “very specific,” potentially counter-intuitive decisions throughout the game. The deciding factor is a final speech check, where if the player succeeds, they experience one of Avowed‘s standard endings, but if they fail, the rarer variant plays out. Interestingly, Venus Theory hinted that Avowed has an even more obscure ending that could take weeks or even months for players to discover.
Given how dedicated some gamers can be, though, it might not be long until every single Avowed ending is discovered and cataloged online. One method of doing this quickly is the age-old tactic of “save scumming,” where players make save states at crucial junctures in the game and reload them to select different dialogue choices and speech checks, helping them reach the ending sequence they desire while saving a lot of time. However, some games frown upon save scumming as the method foregoes the need for multiple playthroughs.
