Summary

  • Astro’s Playroom received a surprise update adding the PS5 Pro and a couple of other PlayStation accessories to the gacha machine.
  • Players can obtain Artifacts and display giant versions in the PlayStation Labo area.

Astro’s Playroom has received a surprise update that adds the PS5 Pro and other PlayStation accessories to the game’s gacha machine. Astro’s Playroom launched over four years ago, but developer Team Asobi has since released a few updates for the fan-favorite game.

Astro’s Playroom first launched in 2020 as a pre-installed PS5 exclusive that highlighted the DualSense controller’s features. The platformer also paved the way for the successful Astro Bot, Team Asobi’s hit game from 2024 that earned numerous Game of The Year awards. While Astro Bot may have eclipsed Astro’s Playroom, it seems developers have not forgotten about the adorable Astro’s first adventure, as the robot’s first game recently received new content.

As spotted by Twitter user realradec, Astro’s Playroom received an update for February 2025 that added the PS5 Pro as an artifact. In Astro’s Playroom, players can obtain “Artifacts” from a gacha machine that unlocks collectible PlayStation products. Although Team Asobi did not formally announce it, the update also added the PS5 Pulse Elite Headset and Pulse Explore Earbuds. Once players obtain these Artifacts, they can display their giant versions in the PlayStation Labo area. Finally, the update also changed Astro’s Playroom boot-up cover art. This isn’t the first time the game has received surprise content years after its release. Astro’s Playroom threw an in-game Astro Bot party to celebrate the latter’s global launch.

Astro’s Playroom February 2025 Update Adds PS5 Pro to Artifacts

Adding the PS5 Pro Artifact could be a good excuse for players to return to Astro’s Playroom. The game also has one of the easiest platinum trophies on PS5, so completing all levels can be quite rewarding as well. On the other hand, Astro’s Playroom may have added the PS5 Pro in-game, but the platformer was not part of the dozens of games that received PS5 Pro enhancements at launch, even when the title comes pre-installed on every PS5 Pro.

While Astro’s Playroom‘s new update was subtle, Team Asobi and PlayStation have been promoting Astro Bot‘s new free DLC content. The first two new levels launched on February 13 and 20, and a new level is to be added weekly until March 13. After completing all DLC levels, a new game mode called Time Attack will be available as well. It is unclear whether Astro’s Playroom will get more updates in the future, but it is likely that Astro Bot will, considering its incredible success.
