So begins the fight between Jiraiya and the two Akatsuki members.

It starts with a brief exchange of fists and kicks. Kisame then swings his sword, the Great Samehada, at Naruto. At the same time, Jiraiya activates his jutsu, the Gamaguchi Shibari: Toad Mouth Trap. This jutsu transforms the entire hallway into the inside of a toad’s intestines, trapping anybody with its sticky mucus, moving walls, and stomach acid. Fighting against Kakashi and the other Konoha Jonins earlier seems to be taking its toll on Itachi, so they decided to retreat. Itachi uses the eternal black flame of Amaterasu to break through Jiraiya’s trap. This is the first time we see Amaterasu in this series.

Everybody is clearly on edge. So when these two suddenly appear to kidnap Naruto, some of Konoha’s strongest Jonins immediately move out to fight them.

The battle begins with Asuma and Kurenai going against Kisame and Itachi, but they have no chance against Akatsuki’s finest. Kakashi enters the fray soon after and immediately copies Kisame’s water jutsu with his Sharingan. Unfortunately, his borrowed eye is no match against the real thing, and Kakashi falls victim to Itachi’s Tsukuyomi. When all hope seems lost, Might Guy jumps into the fight and sends Kisame flying with his kick. Itachi quickly realizes that the Jonins are only buying time until Konoha’s Anbu arrives. Attracting more attention will only hinder their mission, so Itachi chooses to retreat.

Thanks to that, Itachi manages to free himself from Kabuto’s clutch, turning the situation into a three vs one battle.

Under Kabuto’s control, Nagato begins to use the iconic jutsu used by the Six Pains. He summons numerous powerful monsters, absorbs every chakra and ninjutsu, uses his signature Almighty Push/Pull jutsu, and even tries to extract Naruto’s soul and throw him into the gate of hell. As if that’s not enough, Nagato also activates his strongest jutsu: the Planetary Construction jutsu. That’s when Itachi uses his Susanoo to turn the tide of battle. He instructs Naruto and Bee to unleash their strongest long-range attack at the core of Nagato’s planet. The result is a massive explosion that destroys Nagato’s Planet. Despite being sentient and intelligent creatures, the Tailed-Beasts in Naruto are treated like weapons of mass destruction.

Despite the Uchiha brothers using their prized Susanoo, Kabuto proves to be a formidable opponent. He managed to harness the power of Suigetsu, Karin, and Jugo, along with Orochimaru’s other notable underlings, such as Sakon and Kimimaro. Not to mention his snake sense means Kabuto doesn’t have to use his eyes to fight, which renders Sharingan’s genjutsu useless. Everything seems to be going Kabuto’s way, but Itachi has one final trick up his sleeve: the forbidden Uchiha jutsu, Izanami. Once he casts the Izanami, Kabuto is stuck in an endless loop. This allows Itachi to control Kabuto’s body and forces him to release the Impure World Reincarnation jutsu.

Itachi vs Sasuke

The Two Uchiha Brothers Go Against Each Other

Itachi and Sasuke
  • Chapters: 383-394
  • Story Arc: Fated Battle Between Brothers arc

After looking for his whereabouts for such a long time, Sasuke finally reunited with his brother, Itachi. There are so many things that Sasuke wants to know from Itachi. Why did you massacre our clan? Why did you kill our parents? Why did you let me live? But alas, rather than heartfelt answers or explanations, what happens next is a battle to the death.

Itachi vs Sasuke is quite possibly the most unique fight in Naruto. The reason is simply because these two are masters of the genjutsu technique, which means it’s nearly impossible to tell what is real and what is an illusion. After the clash between genjutsu, the fight eventually spills to the real world. From close-quarter combat with fist, sword, and kunai to exchanging ninjutsu like fireball and Chidori, the battle gets deadlier by the minute.

Sasuke eventually launches his strongest lightning jutsu, Kirin. Likewise, Itachi reveals his trump card, Uchiha’s hidden techniques, Amaterasu and Susanoo. Unfortunately, his disease-ridden body couldn’t withstand the weight of such a powerful technique. Add to that the physical injuries he sustained during the fight, and Itachi Uchiha eventually lost his life.
