Maneater Boar
A Massive Foe That Charges At The Hunter And Hits For Major Damage
- Enemy Type: Beast
- Location: Central Yharnam, Yahar’gul – Unseen Village, Forbidden Woods, Nightmare of Mensis
The sight of a massive boar charging at players inside the sewer terrifies players to this day. This Maneater Boar can be tough to handle until players remember how to stagger and use Visceral Attacks on enemies after targeting their backs.
This can make for a hilarious sight as players stab the boar in a rather sensitive region, but this is the only hilarity to be found in an otherwise nightmarish enemy encounter. The Maneater Boar’s ridiculous levels of aggression will surprise players in no time.
7
Bloodlicker
A Nightmarish Monster With A Bulging Sack That Stored Blood
- Enemy Type: Vileblood
- Location: Cainhurst Castle, Hunter’s Nightmare, All Chalice Dungeons
The Chalice Dungeons can be fun to explore, involving its fair share of backtracking through areas where players have killed several monsters. In some instances, players can see a huge, terrifying monster feasting on the flesh of their dead enemies, which is shocking for obvious reasons.
These Bloodlickers hit like a truck and can cause players to panic because of how grotesque they look. These monsters can also be seen outside Cainhurst Castle, where players must be careful to aggro them one at a time if they don’t want to be overwhelmed.

Scourge Beast
The Sight Of This Werewolf-Like Monster Will Send Shivers Down A Player’s Spine Every Time
- Enemy Type: Beast
- Location: Iosefka’s Clinic, Central Yharnam, Old Yharnam, Upper Cathedral Ward, Yahar’gul – Unseen Village
The player’s first enemy encounter is against an injured Scourge Beast that they tackle bare-handed. While players can die in this encounter, they can choose to test their skills by trying to take out the monster with some well-timed dodges and combos.

The Best Action RPGs To Play If You Like Dark Souls
Dark Souls is one of the best video games of all time and has changed the gaming industry forever. Here are some other great action RPGs like it.
However, it’s a completely different ballgame when players encounter two hale and hearty Scourge Beasts on the bridge, making it clear that these enemies are not to be trifled with. These scary monsters can use powerful swings and grab attacks to deplete the player’s health bar in no time, making it important to rely on countershots and selectively aggro these enemies to make things easier for themselves.
5
Abhorrent Beast
This Powerful Foe Comes Out Of Nowhere, Hits Like A Truck, And Is Deceptively Strong
- Enemy Type: Beast
- Location: Forbidden Woods, Oedon Chapel, Chalice Dungeons (as a boss)
Seeing an unassuming beggar transform into one of the game’s hardest enemies is one of the scariest moments in Bloodborne that fans won’t be prepared for. The Abhorrent Beast is no joke, using swift claw strikes and literal shockwaves to kill the Hunter in no time.
Players must be ready for a grueling battle if they choose to take on this powerful foe. It appears in the Chalice Dungeon as a boss from time to time too, causing a sense of unease to rise in players every single time they initiate these climactic encounters.
4
Lesser Amygdala
Finally Being Able To See The Invisible Beings Scattered All Across Bloodborne’s World Is A Nervewracking Moment
- Enemy Type: Great One
- Location: Nightmare Frontier (as a boss), Oedon Chapel, Cathedral Ward, Yahar’gul – Unseen Village
As players make progress in Bloodborne, they may find weird distortions appearing in certain locations that can grab and kill them at a moment’s notice. However, if players either kill Rom and cause the Blood Moon to appear or acquire a total of 40 Insight, they can witness the horrifying cause of these anomalies.
It turns out that the world was populated with several Lesser Amygdalas that look incredibly sinister. They start attacking the player in Yahar’gul, with one of them appearing as a boss fight at the end of the Nightmare Frontier to trap players in a harrowing encounter that is manageable if players aim for the face.
3
Winter Lantern
The Frenzy Inflicted By These Foes Is A Game-Ender For Players Who Panic Against These Terror-Inducing Foes
- Enemy Type: Kin
- Location: Nightmare Frontier, Nightmare of Mensis, Fishing Hamlet
The humming sound of the Winter Lanterns strikes fear in the hearts of most Bloodborne players. These heinous foes have bulbous, fleshy heads that can cause a gradual buildup of Frenzy in players, leading to major health loss in no time.

It’s important to avoid their grab attack at all costs since that’s a guaranteed kill. Battling these foes is a nightmare and players must be ready to die a few times before they muster the courage required to come out victorious against these eerie monsters.
2
Labyrinth Madman
The Speed And Ferociousness Of This Enemy Will Catch Players Unawares In The Chalice Dungeons
- Enemy Type: Pthumerian
- Location: Chalice Dungeons
For the most part, the Chalice Dungeons are relatively tame with their encounters. There are some unique enemies in these dungeons, but they shouldn’t be too hard for players who have been steadily leveling up.
However, things take a turn for the worse when players unlock harder Chalices, letting them encounter one of the scariest foes in the game. The Labyrinth Madman is deceptively fast, being able to charge at the Hunter with reckless abandon before unleashing their erratic attacks. The enemy’s shriek will be burned in the minds of players who will be shocked to their core every single time this enemy closes the distance on them.
1
Ludwig, The Accursed
The First Phase Of This Foe Is A Battle Against The Game’s Scariest Monster
- Enemy Type: Beast
- Location: Hunter’s Nightmare
The first boss in The Old Hunters DLC needed to kick things off with a bang, and Ludwig didn’t disappoint. Players would usually be elated at the prospect of encountering one of the most legendary figures in Bloodborne‘s lore, only to gasp in horror as they witness the monstrosity that once was a great man.
However, during this battle, Ludwig gets a chance to redeem himself in a second phase, remembering his humanity and wielding the Moonlight Greatsword in one of the greatest transitions in a FromSoftware game. He loses his weakness to serrated damage (something all beasts suffer from) as he becomes a human for a fleeting moment and engages in an epic clash with the Hunter.
