Lords of the Fallen Releases New Update for January 2025
Summary
- The January 2025 Lords of the Fallen update improves online connectivity, providing smoother gameplay with reduced rubberbanding.
- Male and female body options are now available with the character creator.
- A new audio option was added to adjust the ambiance of the Umbral realm.
Hexworks has released a brand-new January update for Lords of the Fallen, improving Lampbearers’ 2025 gameplay in Version 1.7.73. Lords of the Fallen was first released in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S users, flaunting an Unreal Engine 5 build as the successor to the 2014 game of the same name. Adopting Soulslike elements in third-person action, the game recruits Lampbearers to navigate the land of Mournstead and cleanse magic beacons to prevent the dark god Adyr’s return.
Lords of the Fallen’s last update deployed in December, implementing more adjustments to the dash and roll system and improving the blood animation shown in Pieta’s post-defeat cutscene. Despite the update being smaller in scale, similar to the current January patch, the fixes managed to target specific issues experienced by players, including the chance to explore Mournstead and interact with the Vestiges and Umbral exit points with enemies nearby.

It Looks Like Lords of the Fallen 2 Will Be Skipping Steam at Launch
There is already a sequel to Lords of the Fallen in the works, but to the dismay of fans, it doesn’t appear to be a Steam day-one release.
Posted on the game’s social media accounts, Hexworks informed Lords of the Fallen players of the new live update, noting the changes were in response to ongoing player feedback. One of the main takeaways focused on improvements to online connectivity, which enhanced the game’s overall smoothness by reducing rubberbanding and lag, so players can defeat Lords of the Fallen’s hardest bosses more seamlessly. Players can now choose between male and female body types when using the character creator, and exploration of Umbral was enhanced by including a new audio option to adjust the realm’s ambiance.

- Improved online connectivity
- Male/Female body option
- Umbral audio settings
Even from first glance at the dark fantasy aesthetic, Lords of the Fallen is one of the best action RPGs to play for Dark Souls fans, and Lampbearers appreciated the recent update for its series of stability improvements and bug fixes. Some fans mentioned the new update motivated them to fire up the game again, and other players requested a hidden HUD option to be considered for a future update.
Lampbearers will be fully aware of the announced sequel currently in full production and targeting a 2026 release, and the Lords of the Fallen successor received a promising update back in October 2024. The follow-up title will feature a more commercial art style, harbor shared-progression co-op, and flaunt higher production values. The sequel is rumored to be titled “Death of the Fallen,” and will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC at launch.
