How To Fish In Final Fantasy 15
Each party member in Final Fantasy 15 has a unique skill that will be leveled up throughout the game, different from the job system in other Final Fantasy games. While some will level up naturally, Noctis’ skill of fishing will require dedicated attention as it’s something you can complete the game without engaging with once.
Fishing is a great way to get ingredients for useful food dishes that Ignis can cook, giving huge stat boosts for the party for short periods of time. Here are the basics of how to fish and everything you need to know about it.
Preparing To Fish In Final Fantasy 15
When fishing, there are four items you can choose that will determine how well things will go for you which can all be changed in the Tackle option when fishing:
Material |
Effects |
---|---|
Line |
The durability of how much pull your line can take before snapping and losing a fish. |
Lure |
While most fish will bite just about any lure, some lures make catching specific kinds of fish much easier. |
Rod |
Determines your “defense”, which protects your line from taking damage when a fish is pulling against it. |
Reel |
Determines your “attack”, which is how easily a fish is reeled in once on the line. |
You can buy new parts and supplies at fishing stores, which are marked with the usual merchant icon on the map and are found near most fishing spots throughout the world.
How To Fish In Final Fantasy 15
Fishing spots are indicated by the fish and lure icon found near bodies of water. To fish, make sure you have at least one of each of the above materials and interact with the fishing spot to begin. The cursor that appears in the water will indicate where you cast your line, with the mini-map in the top right of the screen letting you see where fish are located in this fishing spot. There are four possible icons on the minimap:
- Small blue dot – Location of a fish
- Large blue dot – Location of an uncommon fish
- Small yellow dot – Location of an edible fish
- Large yellow dot – Location of an uncommon edible fish.
Sleeping and coming back another day will respawn more fish.
Fighting A Fish
Hover the icon over a fish’s location and the cursor will turn yellow, indicating a good place to cast the line. As long as you cast it right near a fish, the red bar will appear along the top of the screen indicating its attention to the lure. Quickly press the reel-in button a few times to make your bait seem alive, and the red bar will fill. Once full, you’ll get the command to set the hook by flicking the left joystick and begin pulling the fish in.
From here you’ll use the left joystick to pull against the fish, indicated by the joystick’s location on the screen, all while reeling it in. If you tilt the joystick the wrong way, your line will take damage and snap once its durability reaches zero. Once a fish is reeled in all the way, you’ll pull it up and get the stats and items.
The XP for Noctis’ fishing skill earned when catching a fish is determined by the rarity of the fish caught.
