- Fans are anticipating an Oblivion remake reveal during an Xbox Developer Direct in 2025, though the event hasn’t been confirmed.
- Many are eager for a new Elder Scrolls 6 trailer in 2025.
The rumored Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake may be in active development, according to a developer’s LinkedIn page. A remake or remaster of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion has been hinted to be in the works for some time, with a number of recent leaks seeming to corroborate its existence.
Rumors of an Oblivion remake have persisted over the years, with a 2023 rumor pointing towards a 2024 or 2025 release date for the currently unannounced project. In late December 2024, Xbox insider Jez Corden predicted that the Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake reveal would come during an Xbox Developer Direct in January 2025. While this presentation has yet to be confirmed, the company held Developer Directs in both January 2023 and January 2024, making it a very real possibility. As leaks and rumors continue to circulate, a new piece of evidence strongly implies that Oblivion fans are in for a treat in the near future.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion came out in 2007 but already contained a great deal of potential for player nostalgia from its predecessors.
The LinkedIn page of a Technical Art Director at Virtuos, the China-based developer said to be working on the Oblivion remake, claims that they are working on an “unannounced Unreal Engine 5 remake for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.” While the fourth Elder Scrolls title isn’t mentioned by name, many believe it to be the referenced game, with the use of Unreal Engine 5 further implying that the upcoming title will be a remake instead of a remaster as previously thought. In late 2023, plans for a Fallout 3 remaster came to light, though it’s unclear whether this is still in the cards.
LinkedIn Page Adds Credence to Oblivion Remake Rumors
The follow-up to 2002’s The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, Oblivion was released in 2006 to overwhelming acclaim, earning praise for its vast open world, graphics, and soundtrack. Since 2012, a collection of fans have come together to recreate Oblivion in Skyrim‘s engine in the popular Skyblivion mod. Recently, the development team behind the project released a video update, which implied that the massive mod will finally be released in 2025.
The future of The Elder Scrolls series remains uncertain, as the first and only trailer for The Elder Scrolls 6 was released back in 2018. Bethesda Game Studios has stated that the game would be its next big project after Starfield, with director Todd Howard predicting that The Elder Scrolls 6 would be released between “15 to 17 years after Skyrim.” It may be a while until a release window is announced, but fans are hoping to see a new trailer before the end of 2025.
