A fan of the Pokemon Trading Card Game has shared an exciting pull from the Scarlet and Violet 151 set with the community. They were lucky enough to find the Venusaur ex card within their first booster pack purchase in 20 years. The Pokemon TCG tabletop and collectible card game published eight expansion sets between 1998 and 2003 under Wizards of the Coast before The Pokemon Company took over licensing. Similar to the OG collector getting back into the game after 20 years, it’s fairly common for fans to dip in and out of the hobby, and the game’s expansion releases show no signs of slowing down.

Building on the success of the trading card game, 2024 saw the release of Pokemon TCG: Pocket, which supplied a digital alternative to card collecting. Trainers can open virtual packs for free using in-game collectibles, and fans don’t need to worry about physically storing the pulls. Additionally, Pokemon TCG: Pocket recently celebrated a Venusaur drop event, hosting solo battles with the reward being a Venusaur full-art variant.

Posted on Reddit by JWS5th, a photo of the Venusaur ex full-art card from Scarlet and Violet 151 was shared on the Pokemon TCG subreddit. The collector noted this was the first time they bought a booster pack in 20 years, after putting collecting on hiatus since the early 2000s. After hearing the Pokemon TCG released a set with the original 151 Pokemon, the collector knew they wanted to return to the hobby, similar to another Pokemon fan who scored an incredible pull from the last Scarlet and Violet 151 box in their local store. Furthermore, the fan was impressed by the artwork’s evolution since they last got their hands on some cards.

Redditors noted that the Charizard card from the 151 set usually gets all the attention, but they thought more praise should be given to the Venusaur card’s beautiful artwork. Pokemon fans have redesigned Venusaur and its evolutions before, but the full-art spread by Yoriyuki Ikegami is a floral feast for the eyes. Additionally, other fans shared their love for the 151 expansion, explaining that the nostalgic set had pulled them back into the hobby.

Fans are currently enjoying the Scarlet and Violet Surging Sparks expansion to end an exciting year of releases. The current set focuses on the Terarium from the game’s Indigo Disk DLC and features Stellar Tera Pokemon from Generation 9 alongside new card mechanics, including Ace Specs and combos. Looking to 2025, collectors have Scarlet and Violet Prismatic Evolutions to look forward to, launching on January 17.
