How to Find Melchiah in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Players will encounter many different puzzles during their time in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered — two of the best games from Crystal Dynamics. These puzzles are not some optional choice to get some bonus item — like with many modern games. Instead, these puzzles will completely halt your progression until you can overcome what they demand of you.
Melchiah is one of the game’s numerous bosses and will give players a new ability once they defeat him. However, players will first need to deal with a puzzle before they can find him. Navigating is made much easier than the original PS1 game thanks to the newly added game feature of a compass.

Melchiah Room Puzzle in Soul Reaver
Players will progress through Necropolis in order to face off against Melchiah. Some players might think he lurks behind the large gate of a preceding puzzle, but he actually comes shortly after. Players will know they are in Melchiah’s room puzzle once they see his symbols all over the floor along with an elevator on the other end of where they come from. Players will start by taking the elevator down to the lower floor. Players can then take either the left or right path.
Both are viable options, but 2 enemies will be encountered on the right path, while only one will be on the left. The enemy on the left has a spear impaling them, meaning this can be used to deal with all 3 enemies without needing to run back and forth picking up torchers.
Do not kill the human guard. He will surrender when you get close to him. Killing humans in the game will have them turn on you. If you do them no harm, they will do you no harm. This is not the only game to
discourage harming innocent NPCs
.
Once the player reaches the far east side of the path, they will encounter a door they can go through. Follow along the west wall and interact with the switch. Now, head east again along the walls to find a large crank. Interact with this crank to turn on the large machine. This machine will actually play an important part in the upcoming boss battle against Melchiah.
Head back to the elevator and take it back to the top. Pull the lever opposite the elevator to lower the central platform. Jump down and go to the northwest corner. Look along the west wall, and you will find a tunnel you can use to move downward. Follow this tunnel to the other side to find a room with 4 blocks under lit fires. Each of these blocks can be pushed to a point where they will burn and destroy wooden beams holding up the central platform. Once a short cinematic about he wood burning has finished playing, move onto the next block until the platform comes crashing down.
You can now push the blocks again. Push each block into one of the corners of the central platform. You will hear a button-clicking sound to confirm when one is pushed into the right place — making this feel like a puzzle from a Legend of Zelda game. Once all 4 blocks are in place, the platform will drop yet again — solving the final part of this puzzle. Jump down to the central platform and head east. You will follow a path to an open gate that will shut behind you. This will trigger the boss fight against Melchiah.
