Table of Contents

Some newly published data suggests that many of The Game Awards 2024 nominees have seen an uptick in sales since their nominations. The sales pace for titles like Astro Bot, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and more has likely picked up from increased public curiosity thanks to The Game Awards.
The Game Awards is one of the most notable gaming events on the calendar as it aims to celebrate the best games released every year. Although The Game Awards features a bevy of categories for different genres, such as RPG, action-adventure, indie, fighting, mobile, and many more, only one game out of the very best takes home the prestigious Game of the Year award. This year, though, The Game Awards courted some controversy by nominating Elden Ring‘s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC among standalone releases for Game of the Year.

The nominees for The Game Awards 2024 have been announced, and while many great games were included, these games were sadly left out.
Aside from Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, the contenders for Game of the Year 2024 include Metaphor: ReFantazio, Astro Bot, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Balatro, and Black Myth: Wukong. This nominee list was unveiled by The Game Awards at the beginning of last week, and it appears to have positively affected their sales pace since then. GamesIndustry.biz’s Christopher Dring recently took to Twitter to share GSD data from Europe, and it reveals a sales spike for many titles nominated in various The Game Awards categories.
Week-on-Week Sales Upticks for The Game Awards Nominees
- Astro Bot: 61%
- Elden Ring: 38%
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: 268%
- Metaphor: ReFantazio: 172%
- Silent Hill 2 remake: 43%
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launched at the onset of 2024, but it enjoyed a whopping 268% week-on-week surge in sales, the largest in this list. Metaphor: ReFantazio came in second with a 172% uptick, with Astro Bot slotting in third with 61% higher sales. Even though Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake was snubbed for Game of the Year 2024, it still saw a respectable 43% increase, and Elden Ring followed closely with a 38% boost to sales. However, The Game Awards may not have been the only factor behind the spikes, as Dring noted in a follow-up tweet that game sales naturally increase during the holiday season every year.
Regardless, there’s no underestimating the heightened curiosity around games nominated for prominent categories at The Game Awards. Separate data published earlier this week revealed that Balatro also underwent a major jump in sales on mobile platforms after accruing five nominations for The Game Awards 2024.
