How to Get the Potion Item Card in Pokemon TCG Pocket
While Potion isn’t among the most META-relevant item cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket, it’s essential in the early game for increasing survival odds. As one of the few healing cards in the game, Potion restores 20 HP to one of your damaged Pokemon. But Pokemon TCG Pocket’s beginners often wonder: How do you unlock this card? Here’s the answer.

How to Get Potion for Free
Completing the Advanced Training tasks earns you a free Potion card. These tasks are located in the Guide section of the Battle menu. While Advanced Training becomes available immediately after Basic Training, it’s optional, so many players might overlook it.
Locate Advanced Training here: Battle > Guide > Scroll to the bottom.
How to Purchase Potion
You can buy several copies of the Potion item card from the in-game shop. Potion costs two Shop Tickets, a common Pokemon Pocket currency earned by completing missions or competing in limited-time events.
During testing, I bought five Potion cards from the shop, costing a total of ten tickets. However, it’s unclear if there’s a limit on how many Potions can actually be purchased.
Other Methods for Getting Potion
Like all Pokemon Pocket item cards, Potions are pretty common. You may not see them in regular booster packs, but they are available from the shop, as well as training rewards, Wonder Picks, and Promo Packs.
The only three item cards that might show up in booster packs are the fossil ones: Helix Fossil, Dome Fossil, and Old Amber.
Potion Might Show Up in Wonder Picks
Wonder Pick offers an alternative method to obtain cards in Pokemon Pocket, using a unique resource called Wonder Pick Stamina. It allows you to pull a random card from another player’s previously opened pack, which may include Potions. However, it’s generally not advisable to use valuable resources for such a common card.
Potion Can be a Promo Pack Reward
Players could win Promo-A booster packs in the Lapras ex drop event, one of Pocket‘s earliest limited-time events. These packs are guaranteed to contain Promo cards, meaning you might receive a Potion card from them.
Is Potion Worth It?
Potion is not considered a META item card. Although its healing effect appears useful, Pocket Pocket‘s decks differ from Pokemon TCG Live, allowing only two Potion cards per deck, which caps healing at 40 HP. In contrast, META Supporter cards like Erika offer greater healing potential and are more valuable as staple cards in your deck.
If you’re a beginner in Pokemon Pocket and lack many Supporter cards, maximize the Potion’s utility by using it on your active Pokemon to prolong the battle.
