- PS5 Slim Digital Edition price drops to $379.99 until December 24.
- Slim variant retains original PS5 specs in a more compact design.
- Specific start date for the deal has not been announced at the time of this writing.
Sony has announced that it will start selling the Digital Edition of the PlayStation 5 Slim console for $379.99 for a limited time. Sony released slim variants of its PlayStation 5 console last year. These redesigned consoles give the PS5 a sleeker look, but don’t provide any significant hardware upgrades.
As with the base PlayStation 5 model, the Slim versions come in two different flavors. There’s the standard version with a disc drive, and then there’s the Digital Edition that has no disc drive whatsoever. PlayStation fans do have the option of buying a disc drive separately if they so desire, however. In any case, anyone in the market for a new PS5 Digital Edition Console is in luck, as it’s getting a big price drop for the holidays.

Sony has announced that the slim variant of the PS5 Digital Edition Console is getting its price knocked down from $449.99 to $379.99 until December 24, a steep $70 price drop. Sony did not specify exactly when this big price drop is going into effect, but fans can count on it being live by the time Black Friday rolls around. This significant price drop is the cheapest that the PS5 has been at retail, and so it’s a great opportunity for those that have yet to upgrade to finally make the leap.
PS5 Digital Edition Price Drop
- $379.99 until December 24
Of course, holiday shoppers have more than just this heavily discounted PS5 Digital Edition Console to take into consideration. Those shopping for Fortnite fans may want to consider springing for the Fortnite Cobalt Star PS5 Console Bundle. This version of the PS5 is expected to retail for $499.99 and $449.99 for the Disc and Digital versions, respectively, and it will come with a Slim console, a controller, 1,000 V-Bucks, and eight in-game cosmetics for Fortnite.
Those that already have a PlayStation 5 console may be tempted to pick up the newly-released PS5 Pro instead. The downside is that there are no Black Friday deals for the PS5 Pro this year – or at least, they haven’t been announced yet. The PS5 Pro costs a whopping $699.99 and lets gamers get the most of their games in terms of resolution and frame rate. There is a great deal of controversy over the PS5 Pro’s high price point, and while many are unconvinced that its new features justify the cost of admission, others may want to play their gaming library at its full potential.
