- Game Freak and ILCA are reportedly collaborating on a new battle-focused multiplayer Pokemon game codenamed Synapse.
- The leaked Synapse project is said to be inspired by Splatoon but won’t be an MMO; details about gameplay are unclear.
- The Pokemon Works, a subsidiary company of The Pokemon Company, has opened a website and is believed to be involved in developing the rumored multiplayer game.
A new update has given more credence towards the existence of a multiplayer Pokemon game that was first leaked earlier this year. The Pokemon Company had a major series of leaks earlier in October, including a number of unverified details about Generation 10. As part of the “Teraleak”, one of the things that was leaked was a brand-new multiplayer Pokemon game.
The leaked multiplayer Pokemon game had the codename of Synpase, with early speculation revolving around it being an MMO. However, a user on Twitter known as Centro Leaks deconfirmed this idea, clarifying that the screenshots were inaccurate. The gameplay of this multiplayer title was expected to resemble Nintendo’s own Splatoon series, though the specific nature of these leaks is not exactly clear. Centro Leaks also clarified that this “battle-focused” multiplayer game will be a collaboration between Game Freak and ILCA, the latter having worked on the franchise with Pokemon Home, but are best known for the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes.

Centro Leaks recently posted about how The Pokemon Company opened a website for one of its subsidiary companies, The Pokemon Works. A rough translation of this website details that it is currently working on a new project between it and ILCA. While fans immediately speculated that ILCA could potentially be working on a remake of Pokemon Black and White, Centro Leaks immediately re-iterated that this collaboration likely won’t be for a remake, but rather a brand-new online multiplayer game.
The Pokemon Works Could Be Developing Game Freak’s Leaked Synapse Project
As previously stated, Game Freak’s leaked Synapse project allegedly won’t be an MMO, but an online multiplayer game that takes inspiration from Splatoon. This collaboration was previously hinted at when The Pokemon Company first established The Pokemon Works subsidiary, the studio even being in the same building as ILCA.
It’s unlikely that Game Freak and ILCA’s Synapse multiplayer project will be exactly like Splatoon in terms of being a third-person shooter based on inking and turf wars, however. The scope and premise of this title remains a mystery for now. The translation mentions how both companies want to create an experience that makes Pokemon “more real and more familiar”, hoping that fans will continue supporting the development of its games and services. While it’s possible that this website could be about the leaked Synapse project, it’s also possible that the website could be regarding something completely unrelated to the earlier leaks. Fans will just need to wait and see what The Pokemon Works company is working on.
