Sony has once again angered the PlayStation community after making a controversial change to the PlayStation Stars program, this time adjusting the number of options available when redeeming store credit with the program’s points. While some users are reporting that PlayStation has reduced the store credit options, others are reporting that the feature has been completely removed from Stars altogether.
Ever since PlayStation Stars rolled out globally in 2022, the program has become a much-loved part of the PlayStation experience. Signing up is completely free and allows users to earn points by purchasing games or DLC via the PlayStation Store, or by completing campaigns and activities, which can range from simply playing a specific game or earning a certain trophy. After racking up a few points, Sony allows users to spend them in the Stars section of the PlayStation App, with digital collectibles, full games, and store credit up for grabs. However, it looks like the latter has recently received a controversial change, and fans aren’t happy.

Sony’s PS Plus Premium and Extra subscription tiers are packed with horror games, but which are the best and scariest titles?
Back in August, PlayStation users were left angered over a controversial update to Stars’ terms of service, which confirmed players would have less time to use their points and would no longer be able to earn them via subscriptions such as PlayStation Plus. Now, on the same day that the former change comes into action, users have noticed that the options available to redeem store credit have been reduced, with some stating that they’ve been removed altogether. It’s unclear what Sony’s intentions are currently, but fans aren’t happy either way.
PlayStation Stars Users Aren’t Happy With New Change
While Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service remains its most popular paid program, PlayStation Stars has always been highly loved as it allows users to turn their points into store credit for the PlayStation Store. However, Reddit users are now reporting that those options have been reduced from 1,250 points for $5 and 5,000 points for $20 down to just one option: 2,500 points for $10. But not everyone appears to be seeing the same options, as some are stating the option to redeem store credit is no longer available. “I’m in UK and there is no options anymore,” Reddit user Bamila said, while a user based in Australia says they are able to see the new $10 option.
It’s possible that as PlayStation Stars’ terms of service are being updated today (October 24), the app is in the process of being updated and has caused the options to disappear for some. PlayStation may also be adjusting the options to just one singular $10 store credit option, as opposed to completely removing them.
Many users are making it known that redeeming store credit via PlayStation Stars points was a fundamental part of the experience. Reddit user KristopherAtcheson said, “I’m in California USA and the wallet funds are gone for me. Maybe it’s just a glitch but I doubt it. If this isn’t a glitch then why belong to [Stars] anyway? Not worth it unless it has wallet funds.” The ability to redeem store credit was sorely missed by users when PlayStation Stars went offline earlier this year, so if Sony is now removing the option altogether, fans will likely stop using the program completely.
