What to Do with Heirloom Katana in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
The primary method of combat in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is to use Monster Echoes. In the first dungeon, you’ll unlock Swordfighter Mode, which mimics Link’s fighting style. Unfortunately, Swordfighter Mode has its drawbacks thanks to the Energy Bar and the need for well over 100 Might Crystals to fully upgrade it. When you reach the halfway point in Echoes of Wisdom, you’ll have the chance to unlock Automatons. These are robotic monsters that can be used to fight Zelda’s enemies. Unlike Echoes, Automatons need to be crafted before Zelda can start using them. If you want a close-range fighter Automaton, you should complete the “Chop ’em in two!” side quest.

Chop ’em in two! Walkthrough in Echoes of Wisdom
Where to Find Heirloom Katana
After completing “Still Missing” and starting “Lands of the Goddesses” main quests, you can head north of Hyrule Ranch to find Dampe. Help him get back the Turnkey, and from then on, you can find Dampe in his studio. Dampe’s Studio is north of the Eastern Temple in Eastern Hyrule Field. The temple is where you will fight/have fought Smog in “Let’s play a game” side quest. If this is your first time speaking to Dampe, you’ll need to complete the quests “Automaton Engineer Dampe” and “Explosions Galore!” before you can get “Chop ’em in two!”
Inspect the journal on Dampe’s work desk, and accept the following quests:
- Performance Artist!
- Chop ’em in two!
- Endless Stomach!
To complete “Chop ’em in two!” you’ll need to show Dampe an Echo of a Sword Moblin and give him the Heirloom Katana. At this point in your playthrough, you should at least have a Sword Moblin Echo. The Sword Moblin’s level won’t matter, so don’t worry about hunting down the Sword Moblin Lv. 3 just for the side quest. You can get the Heirloom Katana by completing 6 challenges at the Slumber Dojo in Kakariko Village.
You don’t need to get the Fast Clear results, nor does getting Fast Clear speed up the process of obtaining the katana.
With the Heirloom Katana in the inventory, speak to Dampe, and select I want an automaton. Then, choose Chop ’em in two! to turn in the last piece of the quest.
How to Use Roboblin
Is Roboblin Better Than Sword Moblin?
Roboblin is used like any other Automaton. You summon him by pressing down on the right arrow of the directional pad. To use Roboblin, hold down Y-button to wind the turnkey and activate him. Roboblin attacks with a wide slash that instantly kills most enemies (bosses excluded), even the Sword Moblin Lv. 3. The drawback to Roboblin is it takes a while for him to charge his attack, meaning he’s less likely to fare well against fast enemies. In short, if you want an Automaton that can clear enemies in one hit, then use Roboblin. If you’re facing off against bosses or swift enemies, then you’re better off using a Sword Moblin Echo.
If Roboblin takes too much damage, he’ll break. When this happens, you need to bring him back to Dampe to have him repaired. You can pay in Monster Stones or Rupees.
