The Planet Crafter: Where to Find Quartz on Planet Humble

Planet Humble has a few differences compared to the base planet of The Planet Crafter. Planet Humble is smaller, for one, and it features a sizable underground area you can’t access until late in the game.

However, you can find sources of every resource on Planet Humble that you can on the base planet, and that includes rare quartz types like solar, quasar, and magnetar. You won’t find these quartzes during the early stages of The Planet Crafter DLC, but it turns out that they’re hidden in plain sight.

How to Get Cosmic Quartz

As you start to explore Planet Humble, you may find unusual rock formations, such as the one in the image above. They look unnatural, but unlike the base planet, they don’t have anything to do with ancient aliens or human terraformers.

Instead, these are deposits of cosmic quartz, an ore type exclusive to Planet Humble. However, while you can mine the other new ores immediately, you can’t do anything with cosmic quartz while the whole rock formation is the same shade of brown.

Instead, you need to wait until the planet’s Terraformation Index reaches the GTi range. At some point around the Insects or Breathable Atmosphere stage, the stone around the egg-shaped rock at the top will wear away, revealing the rainbow-colored cosmic quartz beneath. At this point, you can mine the cosmic quartz the way you would any other ore.

How to Use Cosmic Quartz

Just like the other Planet Humble ores, you use cosmic quartz by placing it in an ore crusher and waiting for it to grind the ore into useful minerals. You can see a hint about this on the back of the T3 Ore Crusher: it has the same hints about the normal three ores on the right panel of the input locker, while the left panel shows a cosmic quartz ore and the five special quartzes that appear in the regular game.

However, there are a couple of important points to remember about this process.

  • Cosmic quartz doesn’t just produce quartz. While it would be convenient for cosmic quartz to give you one of each special quartz, it can also give you rare ores like zeolite and osmium, or it can give you two of the same type of quartz.
  • Cosmic quartz works in every type of ore crusher. The hint only appears on the T3 model, but any ore crusher will destroy this quartz. Consider this a warning to store your cosmic quartz carefully, because you should have unlocked the T3 model long before cosmic quartz becomes available.

Planet Humble Procedural Wrecks

Planet Crafter Humble Portal

Just like the base game, you can unlock the Portal Generator building once you reach 250 GTi. The cost is the same, and the function is the same: to locate shipwrecks in other locations on the planet and salvage them. Procedural wrecks give you an unlimited supply of otherwise limited resources, such as plant seeds and most types of quartz.

Cosmic quartz is rare, and there’s nowhere on the map you can mine it with an ore extractor. It’s useful for getting enough quartz to complete the recipes you can unlock before reaching 250 GTi, but you should rely on the Portal Generator to fill up your quartz stores once you get the chance to build one.
