Elden Ring: Where to Get Maiden Blood
For the tarnished, the maiden’s importance in Elden Ring surpasses all else. Without a maiden, tarnished individuals cannot transform runes into strength. Upon entering the Lands Between, players encounter an NPC named White Mask Varre, who forewarns them of a fate marked by obscurity due to their maidenless state. Fortunately, players can swiftly prove him wrong by accepting Melina’s request shortly after meeting Varre.

Table of Contents
Within the vastness of Limgrave, players can find some of the best weapons in Elden Ring.
This, however, is not the only instance where Varre discusses maidens in Elden Ring. Continuing with White Mask Varre’s questline leads players to the Rose Church in the Liurnia of the Lakes, where he shares the tale of the Lord of Blood and his dynasty. Those seeking an expedited route to the Mohgwyn Palace must take part in three invasions against other players. Following this, Varre tasks you with obtaining a maiden’s blood, to be applied to the Lord of Blood’s Favor – a white cloth. Don’t worry, as Varre still assumes the player is maidenless, allowing the use of other maidens’ blood without harming Melina.
Updated October 11, 2024, by Mehrdad Khayyat: White Mask Varre is one of the most important side-characters in Elden Ring, and his questline is the very first one that most players want to complete in the game.
While the character himself sounds a bit shady, his questline will lead players to some number of hidden locations through alternative paths.
One of the early tasks to complete for Varre is to collect Maiden Blood, and it does sound pretty confusing to players early in the game. With recently added videos, this guide should help players more than before to find the exact locations of Maiden Blood in the Lands Between.
Varre’s Questline & The Need For The Blood Of A Maiden
All Maiden’s Blood Locations
The main reason you’ll need Maiden’s Blood in Elden Ring is for Varre’s questline, there’s no other reason to go looking for this item. However, since this questline is tied to joining the Mohgwyn Knights and getting to Mohg, Lord of Blood way earlier than usual, a lot of players end up doing this questline pretty early on. After talking to White Mask Varré outside of the First Steps and then meeting him again at the Rose Church in Liurnia of the Lakes, you’ll get Festering Bloody Fingers from him and will need to do one of two things before the questline progresses to the next step:
- Invade the world of Magnus the Beast Claw using the invasion sign in the Writeblood Ruins.
- Invade other Elden Ring players three times using the Festering Bloody Fingers specifically (killing the host or dying doesn’t matter).
After doing either of these tasks and returning to Varre, you’ll move on to the step that requires the Maiden’s Blood. Varre will give you a white cloth or the Lord of Blood’s Favor item and ask you to soak it in the blood of a maiden. There are four locations where you can find Maiden’s Blood, those being:
- The Church of Inhibition.
- The Chapel of Anticipation.
- Where Irina is first found in the Weeping Peninsula.
- Any of Hyetta locations, with the first being the Lake-Facing Cliffs right after exiting Stormveil Castle.
Each location either has an already dead Maiden inside or a Maiden NPC you’ll need to kill to get their blood. We’ve gone in-depth describing where to find the Maiden’s Blood at each location below.
Method 1
The Dead Maiden in the Church of Inhibition
First up is the dead Maiden found inside the Church of Inhibition. To reach this location, you’ll need to progress past (or around) Stormveil Castle and enter Liurnia of the Lakes. Then, head to East Liurnia and look for either the Frenzy-Flaming Tower or the Frenzied Flame Village. Once you find either of these locations, the Church of Inhibition is within reach. If you’re at the Frenzy-Flaming Tower, head to the west at the top of the nearby cliff to see the Church at the top of it, and if you’re at the Frenzied Flame Village head north and a bit west to find the Church at the top of said cliff.
Once you find and approach the Church, Festering Fingerprint Vyke (AKA Roundtable Knight Vyke (Lord Contender’s Evergaol)) will invade you. Vyke uses some pretty scary Madness-inducing Incantations here, so we’d recommend running inside the Church and activating the Site of Grace first. Alternatively, you can even avoid Vyke altogether and quickly grab the blood of the body of the deceased Maiden sitting in the Church and then run away, but doing so means you’ll miss out on the Furlcalling Finger Remedy, Fingerprint Grape, and Vyke’s War Spear items that Festering Fingerprint Vyke drops after being defeated.
Method 2
Dead Maiden in Chapel of Anticipation
If you have a good memory, you might remember the deceased maiden right in the dilapidated Church you come out of in the ‘tutorial’ area of Elden Ring (AKA where you fight the Grafted Scion). As it turns out, you can actually revisit this church/chapel (the Chapel of Anticipation) using one of the Four Belfries waygates.
To be more specific, since the Belfries have three different waygates, the one leading to the Chapel of Anticipation is the second one from the bottom, and will have a nearby note labeling it as the ‘Precipice of Anticipation’.
After taking the portal, you’ll end up retracing a lot of your steps from the tutorial of the game, starting with the fight against the Grafted Scion (Chapel of Anticipation). After you defeat this enemy and gain access to the Chapel of Anticipation, head inside and you’ll see the dead maiden’s body pretty easily as soon as you walk in. Walk up and interact with said body to gather the Maiden’s Blood, soaking it into the Lord of Blood’s Favor item. Keep in mind that there’s more to find in this location, so look around carefully. To help out the collectors, here’s everything you can find in the Chapel of Anticipation:
Name |
Item Type |
---|---|
Golden Beast Crest Shield |
Greatshield |
Ornamental Straight Sword |
Straight Sword |
The Ring |

Tarnished’s Wizened Finger |
Reusable Multiplayer Item |

Method 3
Killing Irina in the Weeping Peninsula
The last two methods are a bit more dubious. Say what you will about taking the blood of an already-dead Maiden, but it sure beats taking the blood from an unwilling living Maiden. But, if for some reason you don’t want to bother with either the Church of Inhibition or the Chapel of Anticipation, there are two NPC Maidens you can talk with, kill, and steal the blood of. The first Maiden in question is Irina, the nice girl you meet very early on in the Weeping Peninsula.
Thankfully (though it’s still pretty morbid) you don’t actually have to kill Irina yourself to get her blood. Just progress her questline naturally, and Irina will still end up dead in the very same spot you first encountered her. Stumble upon her body here and you can gather her blood this way. Alternatively, you can just kill her as soon as you meet her to get the blood a bit quicker if you’d like.
Method 4
Killing Hyetta at Any of Her Encounter Locations
The second Maiden NPC you can get the necessary blood from is called Hyetta, and she has a pretty expansive questline if you decide to follow it all the way through. However, unlike Irina, Hyetta doesn’t end up deceased at the end of her questline, so you’ll need to do the killing yourself if you want her blood.
You can take Hyetta out at any of the locations you encounter her at, and after doing so simply interact with her body to get the Maiden’s Blood you need. For those who have already progressed Hyetta’s questline and aren’t sure where to find her next, here are all her encounter locations, in order:
Region |
Nearest Site of Grace |
---|---|

Lirunia Highway North (Purified Ruins) |

Gate Town Bridge |
