Patsy Cline’s Estate Signs With Jason Owen’s Sandbox Entertainment
The estate of Patsy Cline has signed a partnership with Sandbox Succession, the legacy division of manager-executive Jason Owen‘s Sandbox Entertainment, to expand the country legend’s presence in media, licensing and other interests.
The Cline agreement adds to a growing portfolio under Sandbox Succession president Josh Matas. The company has already entered into agreements in the last few years to handle the estates of Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Loretta Lynn and racing great Richard Petty.
Cline’s daughter and heir, Julie Fudge, who represents Patsy Cline Enterprises, said the estate plans to work closely with Sandbox on doing more with her mother’s legacy in the realms of film, TV, licensing, publishing, hospitality and merchandising.
Said Fudge in a statement, “On behalf of PCE and my brothers Randy and Charlies, Jr., we are pleased and proud to be with Josh and Sandbox Succession for this exciting next step in the continued expansion and promotion of the global legacy of all things Patsy Cline. We are in good company.”
A documentary and a biography are projects currently in development, the companies said.
Said Matas, “Patsy is one of the most recognizable and important female voices in music whose career was tragically cut short. She was an early architect in showing the possibilities in crossing musical genres. We aspire to work with icons, and we are beyond proud to be trusted to continue her voice for generations to come.”
Gregory Hall, who has been instrumental in working with the estate with PCE, was described as continuing to be a vital part of the new team.
Cline remains one of the most famous and beloved country vocalists of all time, more than 60 years after she died in 1963 at age 30. Prior to her passing she had No. 1 country hits with “I Fall to Pieces” and “She’s Got You,” and the No. 2 singles “Crazy” and “Walkin’ After Midnight” are equally as renowned as classics.
She has often been portrayed on stage and screen, either in productions that focus on her own stardom or include her as an adjunct to her close friend Loretta Lynn’s story, from the stage musical “Always… Patsy Cline” to the 1985 film “Sweet Dreams,” which starred Jessica Lange as Cline. She was portrayed by Beverly D’Angelo in the 1980 Lynn biopic “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
Sandbox Succession is an arm of Sandbox Entertainment, which Owen founded and continues to manage the careers of stars like Kacey Musgraves, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town, Kate Hudson, Dan + Shay and others, with a strong presence in TV production as well as film and Broadway.
