Hatching eggs in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is as easy as ever, especially with the new Picnics mechanic that allows players a new way to get the eggs in the first place. Each egg has a chance to hatch a shiny Pokemon instead of a regular, but it’s not common to see this, certainly not on a first attempt.

Redditor Ok_Cry_4661 shared an image of their incredibly lucky egg hatch, after claiming to have received a shiny Mudkip on their first try. It’s a remarkable stroke of luck, given the odds of it. When asked whether they used the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Masuda Method to bring the odds down considerably, they didn’t answer, but regardless, it’s still extremely lucky. The classic Water-type Mudkip returned to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in last year’s Indigo Disk DLC, and this particular player hasn’t had to wait long to get their hands on the shiny variant.
