Starfield players will know that the mysteries of House Va’ruun hover just under the surface of the base game’s entire main story. So, when Bethesda announced that Shattered Space – Starfield‘s first major expansion – would put their story front and center, it wasn’t a major surprise. And now, as Constellation members the world over prepare to venture to Va’ruun’kai for the first time, we will provide them with the basic guidelines for starting the Shattered Space DLC in Starfield.
Shattered Space will take players to the home world of House Va’ruun, which is known as Va’ruun’kai. In stark contrast to the base game’s frequent planet-hopping gameplay, the expansion will focus on telling a story on a single handmade world that will feature a huge amount of new content. According to Bethesda, this will lead to much more immersion in both the story and the setting.
How to Start the Shattered Space DLC in Starfield
Starting the Shattered Space DLC in Starfield will be a relatively simple process. And while it seems that the expansion is set up to allow easy access to both old and new players, Bethesda does have a level recommendation for all players. The basic steps to starting Shattered Space are:
- To begin the Shattered Space expansion, players must complete the first mission of the main quest, “One Small Step”.
- After completing “One Small Step,” the next unused (no story or random events) system you grav-jump to will trigger a distress call. This will lead to The Oracle, a star station that serves as the launch point for Shattered Space.
Bethesda notes that while all players can technically start
Shattered Space
after completing “One Small Step,” they recommend that players reach at least
level 35
before starting.
How to Get the Shattered Space DLC
There are several ways to get the Shattered Space expansion for Starfield. Those players that already own the Premium or Constellation editions will automatically have access to the DLC. Owners of the standard edition can always upgrade to the Digital Premium Upgrade to access the expansion.
Unfortunately, Shattered Space will not be included in the Xbox Game Pass version of Starfield, but players will be able to purchase the Premium upgrade while still using the base version from Game Pass.
