Starfield Player Designs Helpful Feature That Should Be Added to the Game
Key Takeaways
- A fan-designed Flora and Fauna Catalog could enhance the space exploration experience in Starfield.
- The concept proposes detailed entries about various life forms to fill knowledge gaps for players.
- The community supports the idea, hoping something like it is added to the game by either Bethesda or modders.
One inventive Starfield fan has conceptualized and designed a catalog feature that may help the game become more focused on space exploration than it currently is. It doesn’t necessarily mean that Starfield lacks core exploration mechanics, but there’s always room for improvement, and there are many features and mechanics from which the latest Bethesda roleplaying experience can potentially benefit.
Although a classic Bethesda RPG at its core, Starfield has stepped into unknown territory for the studio by introducing traits of the space exploration genre. Apart from doing quests and leveling their characters, players also need to travel between planets on their spaceships, build outposts, gather resources, and explore the vastness of space. Mod support is another classic descriptor of a Bethesda game, so it shouldn’t be surprising that players have been improving space exploration and solving immersion issues in Starfield with mods from the start. Interestingly, the recent idea proposed by a devoted fan could lay the foundation for yet another mod.
As revealed by Ares_from_Mars on Reddit, they’ve come up with a concept of a Flora and Fauna Catalog for Starfield. According to the user, they felt like the game needed some sort of catalog to help players fill in the gaps in their knowledge about the various life forms they encounter. Ares_from_Mars has gone as far as meticulously designing two pages of said catalog, making them indistinguishable from Starfield’s vanilla UI. The first entry is focused on a representative of the game’s hostile fauna, namely the Crocodaunt, while the second is dedicated to a more peaceful subject, the Sweetwater Cactus. Judging by the positive reception of the concept by players in the Reddit thread, the Starfield community is interested in a feature like this being added to the game.
Starfield Fan Shares a Concept of a Space Catalog
The preparatory work done by Ares_from_Mars makes a potential Space Catalog a very viable feature for Starfield. Moreover, players have already suggested passing the concept directly to Bethesda Game Studios via the official Discord channel, where other fan-designed features are regularly submitted for consideration. While sharing the idea with the development team may eventually have an impact, relying on the modding community is the second-best option. Even the recently added REV-8 vehicle has received the mod treatment, so there’s barely anything impossible for enthusiastic Starfield fans.
The concept of a Flora and Fauna Catalog seems like a very appropriate addition to Starfield, making some wonder why the feature hasn’t been a part of the game from day one. Allowing players to unlock new articles in an extensive space encyclopedia would be an excellent driving force for space exploration. Hopefully, Bethesda will consider adding such a feature in future updates. A similar mechanic may even land with the upcoming release of Starfield: Shattered Space, as there are probably many secrets and unannounced additions waiting to be discovered by players in the expansion.
