October 22 is Going to Be a Big Day for PlayStation Horror Fans

Throwback horror game Fear the Spotlight has confirmed an October 22 release date for PS4 and PS5. An older version of Fear the Spotlight was released on Steam last year, with the game earning “Very Positive” reviews from users that checked it out. Now the game is set to have a proper launch that will see it expand its horizons to PlayStation and other consoles.

Fear the Spotlight was one of the games showcased at the latest PlayStation State of Play event. The PlayStation State of Play didn’t have all that much in the way of horror game representation, with Fear the Spotlight being one of the exceptions. Now, thanks to the State of Play, PlayStation gamers know exactly when they can try Fear the Spotlight for themselves.

As confirmed by PlayStation, Fear the Spotlight is coming to PS4 and PS5 on October 22. The game is also expected to come to PC, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X that same day, though those versions weren’t mentioned in the trailer. For those unfamiliar with the game, Fear the Spotlight features retro graphics reminiscent of 90s survival-horror classics, with gameplay to match. The game sees protagonist Vivian and her friend Amy perform a seance at their school after hours. As one might imagine, things go awry, Amy goes missing, and suddenly Vivian finds herself at odds with a creepy entity roaming the halls. Vivian has to avoid the creature, solve puzzles, and ultimately find her missing friend.

Fear the Spotlight Release Date

Notably, Fear the Spotlight is being published by Blumhouse Games, the gaming subsidiary of Blumhouse Productions, a production company known for its horror films. Blumhouse Games is going for similar vibes as Blumhouse Productions, and Fear the Spotlight will be the first game published under the label. That means there’s a lot of pressure on Fear the Spotlight, but the game’s trailer looks impressive, and it could very well be one of the stand-out horror games of the year when it launches on October 22.

Fear the Spotlight isn’t the only horror game launching in October 2024. A variety of indie horror game projects are releasing that month, joined by higher-profile titles like the Until Dawn PS5 remake, the Silent Hill 2 remake, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, and Clock Tower Rewind. Needless to say, October 2024 is going to be a particularly busy month for horror game fans, especially now that Fear the Spotlight has locked down an October 22 release date.
